Confused about nomination...

I'm currently trying to seek nomination but I'm confused as to how to go about it. Do we use the sample letter on usna's website? (USNA Admissions - Steps for Admission - Step 4) Request Nomination bottom left) After filling out this letter do we mail it to congressmen and senators? Sorry if these seem like stupid questions, I just know I'm a little behind in the admissions process so I'm trying to get this done as quickly as possible.

First, virtually, w/o exception, both your Congressperson and your 2 U.S. Senators will have instructions on their websites (or attainable by calling, but I’m sure most will try to re-direct you to the 'net) with forms, information required, deadlines, addresses, etc. These are where the huge majority, especially from U.S. HR district reps, come from. For a VP nom, just use the form letter as this process is necessary and nearly always futile in bringing forth nominations. But do it as it indicates desire to go wherever there may be potential, no matter what it takes (little), and follow directions/orders, all good traits/assessments to be retained by Midwannabes.

Get these in early, as often as may be available to you, and update your nominators about the notable, good events that you may achieve and receive after submission and before the process is complete. Communicate in mature, appropriate ways.

Best wishes, got get 'em, time fleeteth for candidates seeking appointment to the Fleeteth! :D

Thank you. How likely is it that I receive a nomination? How long does it take to get a response? Will they only respond if they will nominate me?

It looks as though the deadline has passed for my senators and congressman’s nomination. Does this mean I can’t apply? Is a nomination vital to a have a good chance at admission?

Most Congressman and Senators adhere to a very strict deadline, as they see the ability to follow directions and the ability to plan ahead as vital requirements of their military academy candidates.

You are more than likely out of luck.

It is required. Without one, you cannot receive an appointment.

WP and Luigi are correct. The deadlines for submission are probably gone for this years nominations. Senator interview at 9:00 AM tomorrow. Nomination last year but hope this year is the golden one. Sister wanted to bust his stones Plebe Summer but it didn’t work out.

And if you have missed their deadlines and don’t qualify for any other noms (most don’t), it’s not too early to begin preparing for next year. Get to college and plan to excel in a curricula that would mimic Plebe year …or even consider applying for a NROTC scholarship, no nom needed.

Also, Coast Guard Acad requires no nomination, and it’s possible to get a Navy commission from there should that be your preferred career path.
