I looked on the Candidate Information Profile tonight and see a Presidential nomination received in the Nomination box! I was surprised and hopeful that it means what I think it means. It does say that "These are your nominations received to date.." So, did I receive a nomination and if so, do I need to continue with my other nomination sources? I have completed, but not sent my Congressional representative request for nomination packet and I have begun writing letters of recommendation requests for my senators. Do I need to follow through with those now or is there no need to do so?

Hey BlackLab, I'm in the same boat you are right now. Just saw today that I received a Presidential Nomination. I don't know every specific detail about the process (someone here will confirm or correct me eventually), but the way I understand it is that anyone who qualifies for a Presidential Nom will receive one but there is a very limited number of candidates who can be admitted using the Presidential Nom alone. Therefore, it's a really good idea to apply to all nomination sources and earn as many nominations as possible so you're not left out if USNA cannot accept you on the Pres Nom as you still have your MOC nominations to remain qualified for admission. Good luck.

USNA receives in excess of 400 Presidential nomination requests annually. From these, they are authorized to award 100 appointments but usually, in fact, only grant in the low 80s. The catalog specifically states that each candidate should apply to all nomination sources for which they are eligible. Please do so. It will be in both yours and the Academys best interest.
