I plan on studying to become a pharmacist. However, I was told that there was no 'pre-pharmacy' major, and that I should major in something else like bio, chem, or biochem. There is a pre pharm choice on Applytexas though. Which one do I pick?

Good choice. My mom was a pharmacist (however, she HATED it). I’m a biochem major who is looking to go for a physician’s assistant. Try choosing something such as chemistry or biochemistry. They will greatly help if you do manage to get into pharmacy school. However, my mother suggests that you consider what you would do with your degree if for some reason you didn’t get into pharmacy school. For example, would you rater be a chemist or a biochemist, lab tech, researcher, etc. if something happened. Take these into account when choosing. If it doesn’t suit you when you get to UT, you can always switch majors later on. If you have any more questions on pharmacy, feel free to ask, and I’ll ask mom.

My friend is planning on majoring in pre-pharm, but since you need to be able to test into the pharmacy program in UT, you’re unable to put pre-pharm as your major. I believe you need to put health professions-undecided as a major option. You can always change your major once you enter UT.

I know this may not help, but just an fyi, you can change your major automatically at orientation as long as it’s in the College of Natural Sciences, so don’t stress about choosing Bio/Chem/Biochem now because if you change your mind at orientation you can always switch then.
