Confused About Requirements...

I'm going to be majoring in ChemE in CoC
I'm really confused about the English/Humanities requirements...What are they in the first place?

How do I know what English or Humanities courses to sign up for if I'm not sure if I got a 4 or a 5 on the test until late July, after CalSo and Phase 2?

And...what classes should I take to fulfill those requirements?

Bump bump bump

since you're doing ChemE, a 4 or better on either of the two AP English exams will exempt you from the only English class you have to take. As for humanities, you'll need 19 units total (including English).

How far does a 3 on either get me? and What kinds of stuff count for humanities? Do my AP Government and AP Psychology credits count for anything?

What if I decide to be Chemistry instead of ChemE later on...are the requirements for English any different?

Generally a 3 gets you units to count towards your standing, but no exemptions. As you are wavering between colleges, you need to research each one to understand the various rules. L&S has some great information online, not sure about the other colleges.

I meant Chem in CoC

The Chemistry major requires R1A and R1B courses in Reading and Composition. A 3 will allow you to meet the Entry-Level Writing requirement--if you don't get a >=3 on the AP or a (I want to say) 680 on the Writing portion of the SAT, you will be requireed to take College Writing R1A, which is more work than R1a. A 4 passes you out of R1A, and a 5 (on AP Lit ONLY) will pass you out of both semesters of English. Like I said above, if you're ChemE, you only need a 4.

And yes, AP Gov and Psych will help you towards your breadth requirement (which is 19 units for ChemE and 15 for Chem/Chem Bio).

Thanks...really helpful!

IB English A1 HL gets you out of R&C with a 5/6/7

yea, its quite the deal. Except you need to find other english classes to take.. if you're premed.
