I received an e-mail saying that I need to accept my housing offer by May 16th. Right now I am submitting my acceptance. I chose Financial Aid for Housing Payment Plan and 14 Regular for Meal Plan. But the total came out to be about $13,860. But my ePAL award notification stated that I only need to pay $8,600. I'm confused. Can anyone clarify this for me?

That 8,600 is the estimated amount they believe you would need to contribute. If that was your estimation then it is assumed your EFC was 0, thus it would mean that you probably got around 23~24k for financial aid, but UCLA estimates the cost for attendance with housing for most students is around 31~32K which is why they estimated that 8600 is your NET COST. Cause 32~31k - 23~24K = 8600.

Okay, but I think the question is that his housing bill does not take into account his financial aid award.

When do the financial aid or athletic scholarship numbers get figured in?

I think you’re making this more confusing than this should be. Your housing bill does indeed take into account your financial aid (though this your financial aid is not definite till you receive your eFAN , or w.e it is called). If you listed payment under financial aid, that amount will be deducted from your financial aid and what’s left over from financial aid is used to cover other fees such as tuition etc (if not enough you take loans, that is usually the case which is why it is added to NET cost which for you totals 8600, but that can be reduced do to the fact UCLA overestimates the cost of how much you’re expected to pay for books other stuff).zzz

The total of $13,860 is what it would cost for you if you didn’t have financial aid. Since you’re only expected to pay $8,600(minus transportation and other expenses) that’s all you will pay for housing . The rest of the money will be covered by your financial aid balance :)
