I am a junior and I want to apply for this scholarship program. But I don't really understand how this works. Does this program give scholarships to students who are qualified? Can anyone give any clear explanation? I read the description on the website, but I am still unsure...!!!! Also, is it hard to get scholarships? What do they look at the most?

Thanks!!

It depends which scholarships you are talking about. The College Prep Scholarship is for Juniors who are college-bound. If you fill out the long application and get a teachers recommendation, you can be eligible for the College Prep Scholarship. These scholarships sponsor different summer programs at Ivy League schools and visits to any one of QuestBridges partner schools. The College Match Program is for High School Seniors who want to go to top tier schools but might not have the money and are from lower class families and may have suffered some sort of adversity in their youth. Most of the winners of the Match Scholarship are from low income families and have not had the best of things in life.

It’s really hard to get these scholarships as a large amount of people apply but only a couple hundred get in. The College Match application takes a lot of time and involves a few long essays as well as short essays. Along with a counselors recommendation, you need two teacher recommendations and certain test scores for certain of the partner schools colleges. For example, for Columbia you must have the ACT and 2 SAT subject test scores or the SAT and some subject test scores.

To get this scholarship, you must show good community service, grades, dedication, and social adversity. There are two round in the Match Scholarship. The first round decides who is a finalist and the second round decides who was matched with one of QB’s partner schools. If you aren’t matched, it’s still a good thing to be a finalist because that can give you a greater chance of getting into the partner schools later in the admission process. If you are matched, you get a free four year education from your matched school.

To finish this off: QUESTBRIDGE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE. You can’t just apply and expect to get the scholarship. I know this information because I got a QuestBridge College Prep scholarship to visit a college and I was also a finalist for the most recent Match Scholarship, though I was not actually matched with one of the partner schools. I suggest you look into the website a bit more and look to see previous years statistics for the Match program, if that is the one you are most interested in. Look at the number of people who apply and how many people actually get in. Look on CC at the forum for the QB college match and see what we talked about this past year and figure out if this scholarship is for you. See which partner schools interest you and start sending away for information about each school. If you haven’t taken ACT and SAT, register to take them now, before it’s too late. If you’ve already taken them, take them again to see if you can improve on your scores. Also, keep up your grades and take the most rigorous courses you possibly can to stand out as an applicant.

Is college prep scholarship as competitive as the college match scholarship?
So, college prep scholarship basically provides money for summer programs and travelling expenses when visiting colleges?

^^^^^
If you a a junior, it is too late for the college prep.

It says it is due on March 29, 2010…for high school juniors
Is it too late to begin??

no it is not
the application was not released until last week
so it is actually just about time to start applying
no worries

Oops, I’m sorry , my mistake.

My D is actually part of the QB prep program (she is in college now as a QB match recipeient.)She is a mentor that provides one on one help throughout your senior year application process.

QB is a great program that helps you through the whole application process. Whether or not you receive a prep scholarship or a Match doesn’t matter. Go to the website, and see the statistics of the applicants to the match that receive admission to partner schools! That in itself is impressive. Read through everything COMPLETELY, and start early.

Good Luck.
