I was thinking of applying to Questbridge in the next week or so but I don't really see what it provides. Yes, they can match you to a college but do you get a higher chance of admittance if you do it through Questbride? I don't see a difference in the Fin-Aid those colleges give to 0 EFCers and what Questbridge provides. Am I missing something?

Isn’t it too late to apply to Questbridge? maybe I’m wrong, but I thought that the deadline was awhile ago. Or is this for the next application season? Are you taking a gap year?.

I’m a Junior, the College Prep Scholarship deadline is at the end of March. Is that not a prerequisite to the College Match Program that I apply to senior year?

It is not a prerequisite, but it is a great idea. If you are selected as a junior it will make the next step easier. Good luck!!

You don’t need to do the College Prep Scholarship in order to apply for the College Match Program. The College Prep Scholarship is literally for “prep” – you’ll receive information about the college admissions process from experts (no charge!) and get to visit awesome schools. It’s really more beneficial for students who lack the support from parents or their school in that process, for whatever reason, or lack the means/time/etc. to access that information. I didn’t find out about it until it was too late (I just applied for the College Match a few months later), but it would’ve been a great opportunity to visit colleges and learn about everything there (: Of course, my guidance counselor was so helpful with the whole college thing that it might not have been such a great loss for me.

I think you’re mixing up the College Prep Scholarship with the College Match. To answer the financial aid thing – if you’re a 0 EFC, there isn’t a huge difference tuition-wise. But the College Match Program shrinks the applicant pool for you, as well as give you the chance to describe your personal experiences in greater depth and show more of your personality (compared to the Common App and other college applications). The college admissions people will actually get to know you better as they read your Match application. Even if you only become Finalist and don’t get a Match, you still get an edge in the regular applications process – you’ve been “flagged” as a high-achieving, attention-deserving student (:

As I don’t have as much experience with the College Prep, I can only say it’s up to you. I have heard that you can “recycle” essays from the College Prep application and use them in the College Match application. But I totally think you should apply for the College Match!! (:

One of my nieces went through the Questbridge process. She didn’t get a match, but because the QB work had to be done so early in the year, she had ALL of her applications finished by November, and she had non-QB scholarship offers in the bag before Thanksgiving! If you do get a match, it is terrific. But from my niece’s experience it seems clear to me that all of the early prep work also makes a big difference.
