ESSAY TOPICS
Unless otherwise specified, your essay(s) should be typed and be no longer than one page. Please put your full name, application ID number and date of birth at the top of each page.

Topic A: REQUIRED
Describe a significant setback, challenge or opportunity in your life and the impact that it has had on you.

Topic B: REQUIRED
Many students expand their view of the world during their time in college. Such growth often results from encounters between students who have lived different cultural, economic, or academic experiences. With your future growth in mind, describe a potential classmate that you believe you could learn from either within or outside a formal classroom environment.

Topic D: OPTIONAL

Describe an aesthetic experience that you have had that was brought about by an architectural space or sequence of spaces, either interior or exterior. Try to link the nature of the experience to the nature of the space.

so how many essays am I supposed to write?

either A or B? or A AND B?

anybody know the number of words I should aim for?

seems like you have to do A and B. Then, Topic D is an option.

It depends on which Texas school you are applying to. There is a page in the application packet that tells you which school and/or which program requires which essays. I don't have the information in front of me, but I do know that UT-Austin requires Topic A and B for students applying for Arts and Sciences. Each essay is to be no longer than 1 page each. If you don't have that page of the application I think you can check online. It list every university and college in Texas that uses that application; it then tells you wich programs wants which essays.

Are you applying to the college of architecture? Topic D looks to me a lot like the essary they required last year only for those applying to architecture.

I am also appyling, but don't know which essay to write for engineering. does anyone know where to find this info?

Try this link if you are applying to UT-Austin. You can look through the online application and see what you need.

vitamin1, you do essays A & D for architecture. You do some of the other essays if you're applying for Plan II Honors or scholarship. This is the right information as my college advisor at school called UT's admission office and told her that it was topics A & D. (I know because I applied to the arch school about 3 weeks ago.) Hope this helps! (Don't worry, I was confused, too.)
