confused on how uga calculates gpa (weight)?

my school adds weights to their honors and ap classes. from what ive read on the uga website, if your school already adds weights they just leave it alone (don't add .5 to aps etc.) and uga doesnt weight honors classes.

so if my school adds three points to every honors class, will uga take those away or just use the grades my high school gave me?

It took me a while to figure it out. It means you get no points added. Good for those who needed the AP points, but really not good for others. For example, to make it easy to explain, let’s say you have all A’s and a 4.0. Now let’s say you would have had that 4.0 without the three points too because all your AP classes were A’s before adding points. For UGA you are still a 4.0. But if student B has a 4.0 and no points were added at her school, and she took 7 AP classes, then when computing her average 7 of her classes will get a 4.5. Make it really easy for me and pretend each student had a total of 20 classes, 7 APs and all As. So basically the same student. But student A has a UGA GPA of 4.0. But student B has a uga GPA of 4.175. So it really ends up penalizing students whose school added points that they did not need. They are stuck at the school calculated gpa.

^Wow that sucks… My school adds points for APs… So it’s pretty much impossible for me to get above a 4.0 now…

This does get confusing – not real clear on what your school does, but if your school adds weight to your GPA ONLY and not your grade, then UGA will recalculate your GPA by adding .5 to AP grades for their GPA
