Confused on which classes to sign up for(freshman 1st sem)

Im a incoming freshman undergraduate and i would like some input on what I should do with my schedule.

my potential majors are political science, legal studies, business

only university/college requirement(not including the bredths) i need to satisfy is the 2nd half of reading and comprehension.

Currently, I am signed up for

Philosophy 2 (4 units, satisfies a prereq for possible major),

political science 2(4 units, satisfies a prereq for possible major)

education 24(1 unit, seminar, interest)

With phase 2 coming up, I am not sure what I should do....

either add just 1 more 4 unit class and get the minimum 13 units. if so, what class should I take? A class to satisfy the 2nd half of R&C? Or is that too much reading in one semester b/c of philos+polisci+r&c class? Or shuld I take a science class(to add some variety) to get rid of a bredth requirement? But I read somewhere that bredth requirements shuld be dealt with later, not in the first year. fulfilling the total number of units is not too much of a concern b/c i have aps to cover any semesters that fall short of the 15 average...

or

should i drop the seminar, and add 2 more 4-unit classes? only advantage of this would be I can get rid of more requirements earliar. but is this too heavy? would it affect my gpa by taking more classes?

any help would be great, i really appreciate it, thanks

I would not suggest getting rid of the R&C now because of all the reading. Plus, the selection of the 2nd half of R&C is more during the Spring. Take breadth now, it will balance out your schedule and will help you transition into college. Whoever said that breadth should be dealt later is somewhat correct, for you want to make sure to take care of all your prerequisites, but breadth are important too in order to balance out your schedule. Either way would work, if you do or don't drop your seminar, just whichever one your prefer and think you can handle is what you should do.

casrol, don't you also have to satisfy the AC requirement?

breadths are generally ower priority simply because there is time pressure to complete pre-requisite classes to declare your eventual major, and you want to be sure they are done in the first two years. R&C requirements (the second class in your case) should also be a priority in the first two years.

However, you are well positioned for that with your phase I classes - you are take two pre-reqs for potential majors. At this point, you can think about the seven breadths, the AC requirement, and the one R&C course as suitable courses for phase II. Since you need to take only the one R&C, it isn't that urgent that you take it immediately, as long as you polish it off in the next year or so.
