Confused on why top students are rejected at UCSD

<p>I call BS on that. UCSD is simply using the same internal weighting system and either 1) not overtly putting points to it, or 2) is still using the same points as always, just not publishing it on the web or in discussions with waitlisted or rejected applicants. </p>

<p>You don’t develop a system over several years, and then POOF, scrap it. They’re simply putting the point system underground. The point system WAS holistic. The only part missing was points assigned to the essay. Every other part of it was in fact quite holistic, as academic stats alone (GPA, 5 SATs, # of a-g courses) only got an applicant, at best, to about 95% of the minimum points needed for admission. I never understood why they published it in the first place … they were the only one of the Top 100 colleges that actually put their point system (EVERY college uses some form of weighting, or points) in writing</p>
