I am currently a senior, I submitted a Summer Session App to USAFA/USNA but did not get accepted to USAFA. (I went to NASS) On my USAFA app page it showed Not Competitive.

Once I got back from NASS I started the application process for USNA and USCGA and both apps are now complete.

Tonight I checked my DODMERB file and it showed a section for Air Force. I went to my USAFA application and now I am a candidate. I am excited but I am confused. I have already sent 2/3 MOC packets in and I left off USAFA because I was afraid I would never become a candidate.

I am not sure why all of a sudden I would become a candidate and I do not know how to rectify the nomination packets I sent in to the members of congress.

Why all of a sudden would I beocme a candidate and what do I do with the nomination packets I have already sent in???

That's a tough question to answer. What I would do, is call the Academy and calling the congressman's office. If your district isn't that big, then I don't think it should be much of a problem. Good luck on that. Don't quit either, the oppurtunity is there untill your 23 anyway.

This is not really a crisis - call the MOC's office where you sent your applications. Ask to speak with the Nominations manager - or whomever handles the SA Nominations.
Explain to that person that you are now a candidate at USAFA as well and would like to be considered for a AFA nomination. You don't need to go into detail. It's still early in the application year.

Be advised - some MOC's want you to rank and some only allow you to pick one academy. It all depends on their policy.

Also, it might help you dpeneding on where you are from. Some areas have a high intrest for USAFA and have a lot of contendars, while others have low intrest for USAFA, but high for USNA.

You never know how these things will work out. Soaring Son did not get accepted to Summer Seminar at USAFA, but did at USNA. Zip ahead a few months and he recieved a Letter of Assurance from USAFA and did not from the USNA. He had ranked USNA as his first choice to his nominating source simply because he was accepted to their SS, but not USAFAs. A quick call to the nominating source and he was lucky to get nominations for both schools.

To this day, we are not sure what happened - although we have some pretty speculative theories.

Bottom line - keep your options open, do not close any doors and stay in touch with you nominating sources. Good luck!
