UCR Student
I am gonna be a Freshmen at UCR, and I am bummed about the idea of going here

The reason why I choose to attend here is because, of the Financial Aid it offered me.

I want to become a Pharmacist- but I dont know what to major in, in order to make my life easier and have a big chance of success in getting into pharmacy school.

I want to transfer out of UCR as well- could anyone advice me on what I should do?

stevems93…Which school you complete your pre-pharm requirements at isn’t necessarily all that important. Colleges of Pharmacy will primarily look at your GPA (particularly in core curriculum) and especially your PCAT scores. We’ve also been told that work experience in the Pharmacy field (even if it’s summer jobs at Walgreens) is highly desired.

I’d recommend looking at the pre-pharm requirements for the Colleges of Pharmacy that you’d most like to attend and bumping that list up against the various undergrad degrees to see what most closely matches. Our D1 will be majoring in Biochemistry at U of Minnesota and that degree covers nearly all of her pre-pharm requirements should she get accepted to their College of Pharmacy (and nearly every other College of Pharm as well).

Excellent grades from just about any undergrad program along with high PCAT scores will get you accepted into quite a few Colleges of Pharmacy. If UCR gives you great financial aid and you can save money for professional school, don’t look to transfer unnecessarily.

Thanks alot for the responses.
Another reason why I want to transfer is because, the drive from my house to school is better far and I do not want to Dorm there.
I had applied to closer Universities but ultimately the Financial Aid pried me away from Cal Poly Pomona and Fullerton.
I’m thinking of reapplying to either Pomona and other closer colleges in order for me to earn my bachelors degree.-(Do you think this would be a good idea).

Im thinking of either majoring in Biochemistry or Chemistry- confused at the moment about it.
Could you guys give me a head ups on which to major in.

Also i want to minor in something else-which degree will be best suitable to minor in with Chemistry or Biochemistry

I think a business minor will go very well with a pre-phamacy student. You need the business acumen to work in phamacy and perhaps operate one on your own.

If you do not like UCR’s dorm, find a place outside of the school and share with some friends will give you a better college experience than stay home. I think you are fine in UCR, you may not like the other schools either.

Yaa i know well UCR does not have a Business degree minor.
Thats another downfall
Thats what im thinking about doing starting next year if I still go there

which is better though a chemistry or biochemistry degree

Major in something you really like to do. I heard biochem is a little harder than chem but I don’t think it will matter for pharmacy school. If you like chem, but you don’t like bio, go for chemistry. If you like both bio and chem, then go for biochemistry. I believe pharmacy school is mostly concerned about your GPA, PCAT, internship experience, volunteer experience, and extracurricular activities that are related to pharmacy field.

Thanks, Im leaning towards Chemistry because, I did not really like BIO
Do you recommend me staying at UCR or transferring into another UNiversity
Since the college is too far away from Home

Do you not want to go to UCR because it is too far away and you aren’t staying in the dorms? Or is it because you are concerned that you won’t get the right program to get into Pharm school?

If it is the former, then you may be better off at a closer school. If it is the latter, then I highly suggest that you contact the counselors at UCR to help guide you into the right courses to get what you want. UCR’s program is just as good, if not better, than the other schools you are mentioning.
