Pharmacy Major

Hey everyone, I live in California and want to major in Pharmacy. I was planning to attend a UC for 2 years, then transfer to UCSF. I'm wondering if this is the best route for me, what UC should I attend prior to UCSF, and what should I major in at that UC for the time being. Thanks for your time!

Please anyone?

UCSD get bachlors in biology/chem/pharmacology. then apply to ucsd school of pharmacy

My fist thought would be UCB just because they are the best and when you transfer it not a big move; additionally, if you don’t end up transferring you’ll be well off with a cal degree. But, if I was you and I was sure I was going to transfer I would go to Davis because they have a good department and a bit easier than UCLA and Berk.

But, after all its just lower division of undergrad so go where you like it best.

Good Luck :)

I would think UCSD since they just opened a new school of pharmacy. Im not sure where Angljc1 got off thinking Davis would be the best place for pre-pharmacy behind Berkeley. Im sure it is good, but deffiantly not on par with a UCLA or UCSD, and surely not a Berkeley. Attempt to get into a a top tier UC (UCSD, UCLA, UC Berkeley) and if you cant i would then consider UCI and possibly UC Davis and UCSB. I do agree with her however that UC Davis would be somewhat easier than a top tier UC, possibly allowing for you to have higher grades. If you have the grades to get into Berkeley, LA, SD, then also check out USC as they have a good school or pharmacy.

Have you look into the Pre-pharmacy program in University of the Pacific (UOP)? They offer 5 year, 6 year or 7 year program depending on your high school GPA and SAT scores.

After completion of the second undergraduate year at UCSD, and the required mathematics and science courses, the student would apply for admission to the combined B.S./Pharm.D program. The application process and deadlines have not yet been determined. This website will be updated once the appropriate approvals for the program and the application process are finalized. The earliest date that students will admitted through this program will be Fall of 2007.

your not in the Skaggs pharm school until junior year, by then your will on your way to UCSF

Its a great idea if your not totally set on UCSF ...but if you are, just decide what school you like best and go there.

thanks you guys for the advice, right now I think I'm going to try to get into one of the 3 top UCs because I agree with Angljc1 about having a degree from in a good school just in case. And thanks confident for mentiong UOP, I did not know they had such programs, but do you think thats a better path than taking the UC route?

I think UOP is a good path to take IF you know for sure that you want to be a pharmacist. The pharmacy school in UCSD and UCSF is extremely competitive and difficult to get in. It doesn't hurt to put in your application for the UOP pre-pharmacy program (it's free if you apply online, the deadline is November 15). You can always decline if you decided not to go.
