I’m taking AP gov and the textbook is really confusing because they overexplain examples and concepts. I genuinely cannot understand most of what they’re trying to say. My teacher assigns me 20-25 pages of reading per week which takes FOREVER, 4-5 hours of note taking (typing my notes, not even writing) and I have to turn the notes in for a grade. When he explains the concepts covered in the textbook in class they are much simpler explanations and I can understand almost everything as opposed to this horrible textbook. What should I do?
I doubt they’re going to change textbooks with school already underway, but you should take up with your teacher exactly what you just wrote here. If others are having the same issue, perhaps the class should hear his lecture before he has you do the reading. That may help make sense of the book. At the very least the teacher might offer study tips and tell you about common pitfalls students stumble into. Honestly, the weekly workload sounds about right for an AP level class. The teacher can adjust how the material gets presented, which may make it feel less of a grind.
@Groundwork2022 okay you’re probably right about the workload, I’m just overreacting. What concerns me is the way they describe things in the textbook, I’ll talk to my teacher about it, thanks.
