Confusion about deadline and recommendation letter; please help

Hello. I will be applying to Rutgers for the fall 2014 session and would be glad if someone clarifies some issues for me.

The Rutgers website states that students who wish to be considered for scholarships should "apply by December 1 and submit all required credentials within two weeks of that date." I'm not really sure what this means. I have already sent my test scores to them and I will be sending my online application within a few days (before December 1, of course). However, I won't be able to send my high school transcripts to Rutgers before December 3 as my school won't be able to prepare them before this date. This means I will still be considered for scholarships, right?

I have another query. The website states that recommendation letters are not considered by Rutgers. This seems really odd to me as Rutgers is probably the only university I've heard of that doesn't ask for recommendation letters. My teachers have provided me some really good recommendation letters and I would really love to send them along with my transcripts. Do you guys think I should do that or is it simply going to annoy the admission officers instead?

I would really appreciate if someone helps me out. Thanks.

I think that as long as you have submitted the materials by December 15th (2 weeks from Dec 1) then you should be ok. You don’t send transcript, but rather fill out the self-reported academic report (SRAR) online. You need to get your transcripts for 9th through 11th grade and fill out the SRAR which is linked to the website. If your grades are numerical then you have to convert them per the grid that should be on your transcript. (It was for my son) FYI Univ. of Illinois has a similar procedure. Everything is online other than the test scores that are sent directly. Good Luck

First question:

Rutgers does not require you to SEND an official transcript. THEY DO REQUIRE you to fill out an online transcript sheet through their website. This should be done within two weeks after you submit your application (preferably before December 1, it took me about 30 mins personally).

Second question. RUTGERS DOES NOT READ RECOMMENDATION LETTERS. I went to an info session at my school at at least 10 people asked if they should send in letters and the admissions person just got so annoyed. She said they won’t even touch the letters.

Thanks to both of you for clearing it out for me.

Well, my case is actually a little different as I am a gap year student. This is what the website says for gap-year students like me:

STUDENTS WHO HAVE ALREADY GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL SHOULD PROVIDE:

  1. Online Application for Undergraduate Admission
  2. $65 nonrefundable application fee payable online by credit card
  3. Final official high school transcript showing all courses and grades from 9th through 12th grade and date of graduation
  4. GED holders should submit both GED results and a high school transcript from any high school attended
  5. College transcript(s) if you took any college courses at a two- or four-year college
6)SAT or ACT scores (with writing) only if you graduated from high school less than two years ago and will not have at least 12 college credits completed by the application due date

As you can see, nothing about the online transcript (SRAR) is mentioned here. So that means I have to send them the official transcripts instead of filling out the online SRAR, right?
