confusion about the 2008-2009 pell grant increase

i had heard that the pell grant for next year is supposed to go up to $4800, but, when i look at the omnibus bill that the house approved yesterday (or was it today?) , it says that the maximum pell grant is only $4241!! that is a $69 reduction from the current $4310!!

is anybody in forum land confused???????? i am!!!!! is the $490 increase supposed to go on top of the $4241 or no?

The maximum Pell Grant, which is now $4,310, would be trimmed to $4,241, although the actual award would rise to $4,731 once funds from a student-aid bill enacted in September are included. That measure, known as a budget-reconciliation bill, provided enough money for a $490 increase to the maximum contained in the new spending bill for 2008.

it seems that i have answered my own question!!

sorry about the above post, folks, but my own reply to the above is useful information for those who are wondering what the maximum pell grant amount is for next year.

i would love comments anyway though...

just so you know, both houses of congress (house and senate), passed the omnibus package earlier this evening...it now goes to back to the house for the vote for funds for iraq and afghanistan--which should be no problem--and then to bush for his signature.

the house is scheduled to vote on wednesday, so the wait is almost over...

the bill passed the house today. it now goes to bush for his signature.

it looks like pell is going up to $4731!

it's official---bush signed the bill today.

look for a max pell grant of $4731 for the folks that get a 0 efc on their SAR.

Nice. lucky me!!!!!!!!!!!!
