hello all ^-^
i’m a hs senior and while applying for/researching various colleges, i’ve found various versions of bio majors that include things that i’m interested in doing.
eventually, i want to study protein folding, be a protein engineer, and work with/manipulate DNA using the CRISPR/Cas9 mechanism. i do want to go into research, and am planning on pursuing at the very least a masters (and hopefully, a phd, depending on funds/where i am at that point in my life.)
however, i would also like to work closely with math and not so much with human biology - i understand that not dealing with human biology when working with dna, genomes, and the like is essentially impossible, but i just prefer to look at things from a micro/molecular perspective.
along those lines, i’ve narrowed down my major choices to any of the following:
- genetics/genomics
- biophysics
- molecular and cell biology
- biochemistry
- bioengineering
- bioinformatics
i know it might just be a minor issue i’m fretting about, especially as career plans and major choices can be fluid, but if anyone could just differentiate between all six, or even just a few, of the above majors more thoroughly, i’d really appreciate it! thank you so much!
