Hey everyone!
I went to Congressional Academy last year! And it was an absolutely AMAZING experience!!
Definitely join the 2010 group to ask questions to other people who went!

I talked with some of the people who read the applications and was in charge of the decision process. It really does depend on the state with the number of applicants! If I remember correctly, he said that they look a lot at the GPA/grades/classes :)

Oh! And btw. Last year, we actually had two texas girls from the same high school come! So I don’t think they really split it up by districts.

I LOVE American History.
APUSH is the love of my life.
I hope that my essay conveyed my interests well enough
sooo nervous!

Thank you justagirl! wow, well then there is hope for me and my friend from our school! So question. Was your essay prompt the same as ours, being why do you want to go and how are you qualified, basically?

It was exactly the same! Just be yourself in it :). In my opinion (although I don’t really know) I don’t think the essay portion was the first thing they looked at. They really did look at grades/classes, etc. I think the essay was one of the last things they looked at. But if you love history and challenge yourself, it’s most likely for sure that your grades will reflect that! :)

Also, just know that if you’re qualified you’re qualified. If you’re not you’re not. They try to get people from all 50 states, but they won’t choose someone from a different state to go just because they’re from a different state. It does base on if you’re qualified. (I hope that didn’t sound terribly mean! I really don’t mean it to be I’m bad at choosing my words sometimes and am terrible at communicating! Hahha :))

GOOD LUCK!

Lol, I didn’t even know who my representative was! I had to look it up, and then I accidently sent him my essay I think. :P

And good for me if they look at my grades, classes, and GPA first. My essay was a little over the top. I tried to make it all inspiring and touching, rofl.

When someone gets their accept/reject (hopefully accept) letter, will they post it on here and let everyone else know, so we can expect ours as well? Thanks!

we should be getting news within the next week and a half!

Even though I know there’s an extremely small chance of them having made their decisions/sending them out by now, I can’t help but get a little hopeful every day when the mail arrives, and then disappointed when there’s nothing there, haha.

how many people usually apply?

hopefully not too many!

Luminescent: I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN! I go out of my way to check the mail everyday, in hopes that something has arrived, knowing deep in my subconscious that nothing has.

nothing yet D: I speculate that our decisions will be in our mailboxes by Monday, or Tuesday at the latest.

woo right before/during AP’s!

Tylrrvera: I hope you’re right! You probably are, but if they come later, I’m going to be completely spastic for a few days. Waiting on decisions and preparing for APUSH exam will not make for a very good combination, I doubt.

Yeah, 4 Ap’s plus SAT’s plus waiting for the results is killing me, ahahaha.

And are they sending results by actual mail, or through email?

I’d assume by actual mail, judging from their policies in past years. And I am SO excited too. We’ve only got a few days of April left. Hopefully it’ll come today.

Got mine in the mail…

that’s awesome! What state are you from, James11223?

Also I took the AP for US History last year… it was relatively easy so don’t fret too much!
