I've been lurking on this site for the past week and decided to jump in with a question. Our D just received an invitation from the Congressional Youth Leadership Council to represent her country (she is also American) at the Global Youth Leaders Conference in D.C. and NYC this summer. She already submitted her applications to various colleges in the States and we're wondering if she should send a letter to the admissions officers about this recent invitation.

No, don't bother. These are wonderful, wonderful programs - two kids of mine went, learned a lot, and had the time of their lives; one is till friends with kids from 5 years ago - but since this is basically a parent-pays-for-the-opportunity, and since so many kids go, it isn't considered much of an honor. My kids didn't even mention it on their apps.....

Thanks for your input - I was beginning to give up hope of ever getting a response! Your answer confirmed what we already suspected, but we thought that we would still run it past the "experts". Our D is our first child to apply to college and it is turning out to be quite a nerve-racking experience! I guess it is the overwhelming feeling of wanting to do everything right...
