hey, i was wondering if anyone had ever heard of the National Youth Leadership Conference that is held in Washington DC.

i was invited to attend and i was just curious about what it is, if it's necessary to attend, and if it looks cool to colleges

thx.

it's a scam i heard, i got it and lots of others got it, i hear it's just a way to get your money. don't worry... it's nothing special

In general, programs like these have the reputation for being interesting learning experiences for the kids who chose to (and can AFFORD to) attend. Often they run well over $1000.00 for the 5 - 7 days of the conference. You can find critiques on CC every so often from kids who did attend. Many seem to have had a great time with other kids of like minded interests.

The "invitations" are offered in such a way to make them sound more prestigious than they actually are. They are not really 'an honor' but a very well marketed sales brochure. If the subject matter is something you would like to study more in depth and you can afford it, then by all means go ahead. But, it is not something to list as an honor on a college application. Perhaps an EC to show passion in a particular area.

thanks, that's what i figured..im not really that much into politics, so im glad ive got your opinions
