Cons of Honors College

Hey guys

I was wondering if you could help me understand some potential downsides to the Honors College
I've read the boards and seen all the pluses but I'm still weighing my options and was hoping that someone could shed some light on this topic.

it's still LS&play...lol i kid i kid

I'm not in Honors but most of my Honors friends complain about Great Books, which is a required class.

I hear Great Books is a joke class.

It really depends on your gsi.

My friend's GSI wants them to quote random additional passages, from memory, and relate them to the passages given on the midterm (the passages are unknown until you start taking the test).

i would not say gtbooks is a "joke" class.

*not in honors or LSA, but here's the gist I get from my friends who do/did it:

Honors advising = useless. Go to the advisors of what you think you want to major in, and hopefully they're more helpful.

Honors housing = awesome. South Quad is the place to be! (I did live there for 2 years)

Honors classes = some are easier (calc 3), some are harder (calc 4)...

Honors thesis = most people drop honors before this, or join honors later in order to do this. Not sure I know anyone who has done all of it...

But yeah, pretty much what bearcats said... =P

honors advising is much better than regular advising. that is certain.

"honors advising is much better than regular advising. that is certain."
but it's still no match for ross or COE advising... dont even have to prove my point, just try to go to the career office..
