<< About the Honors Program>> (URGENT!!)

hi all , this is the first time i’m posting here. this is pretty urgent but i’ve been accepted into the Honors Program. Before i accept, i want to know more about it. **PLEASE **help me

What advantages does Honors provide? Does that help in my admission to the Ross School (i want to get into the ross in 2nd year)?

How **hard **are the courses? How hard is it to maintain a 3.4 (as it said on the website getting a 3.4 is the minimum… kind of scared by that now…)

What courses do i have to take when i’m in honors? Some optional, mandatory??

Thanks in advance.

Looking forward to some helpful advice and replies.

take it easy
if you search this forum you will find plenty of information about the honors program. All the answers of your questions are there.

i'm in the honors too. and found out that they have to take a class called.. Great Books? To be quite honest, i'm not into books...

been searching thru past threads and discoverecd that honors do get you into ross easier than others (don't know if this is true though).

Have the same question #2. How hard ARE they? And what courses do i have to take?

My son was a Ross pre-admit, so in honors LSA his freshman year. His overall GPA end of freshman year was 3.8 something.

He loved Great Books. Got an A in it. It was alot of work but in his opinion, infinitely better than freshman english. If you hate reading and writing, it may not be the class for you. Its Michigan. Classes are going to be challenging. Great books is not reputed to be one of the flunk-out classes, but you need to realize most kids are bright at UM. If you want to get into Ross, you are going to have to work hard regardless of the classes you take.

^ hello. THanks for your information. It is not that i'm NOT intersted in books; in fact, i do love READING books. I just really dislike books where we have to write a commentary about the techniques/literary devices (like, Shakespear, haha). Books that involves deeper issues, like God and the human nature interest me much more..

So I was wondering (if you can give me more information), what the Great Books course is about? What kind of books do we read? How do we discuss it ( a term paper or a class discussion)?

p.s. does everyone who sent an application to honors all get in? is it that easy? because on this forum everyone seems to get in...

No honors most definitely was NOT auto-qualify.....I will ask my son more about the class and get back to you.....I just know that he really liked it but it was definitely challenging.

honors is a joke...most honors classes outside of math/science are cupcake classes. Just like LSA classes, they are extremely easy to do well in

blissful, the great books courses are more along the lines of what you said you like and not techniques, devices. I heard the professor that most ppl like, Cameron, is retiring though.

thanks for all the inputs. i accepted the place in honors. and hope for all the best that it isn't too hard or too easy and find the class i like

I think you will like it. Sorry I never was able to to talk to my son yesterday about the class. I know he liked the fact that he felt like he had an additional resource to go to for help although he never needed to.
