just out of curiousity, what happens if you lie on your college application? e.g. bump up position from secretary to prez or something… activities or stuff like dat?

Goodness, has it really come to this?

If your college finds out, then you will 99% likely get your admissions offer rescinded. They'll probably tell your guidance counselor, who should notify all the other colleges you applied to of your insincerity in the applications, and just take a wild stab at what those colleges will do with you...?

Schools have honor codes and if they found out you lied on the application, they might take it hard. I assume this is a hypothetical question, and so I won't pursue that further.

More likely the problem would be a mismatch between what you are saying and anything that is in your GC/teacher recs. Adcoms read a lot of apps and some of them raise red flags. They can tell when an applicant did not write their own essay. They just get bad feelings sometimes.

your admission will probably be rescinded; if you're already in college, they may kick you out; if you've already graduated, they may revoke your diploma...

but then again, it depends on the extent of the lie, too...saying you founded a club is a lot different from adding an hour to the hours/week you spend on an activity

you may also wanna search the archives

make sure they can't find out. Burn all the evidence.

OK - you lied on your app about what position you held in a club - sounds like no big deal to some applicants - if adcoms find out - maybe they will, maybe they won't - you can bet they're going to question everything else on your app and wonder what else you lied about...or will lie about in the future.
