Conservative Attitude?

Could current or previous students respond about liberal tolerance on campus and in classrooms? Right-wing conservatists .vs. left-wing liberals, is there a comfortable place for a student who doesn't want to soapbox or be a part of the pack. A&M has so much to offer in all other respects and I would hate that my daughter would reject a college based on a an assumption. Thank you for your time and thoughtful responses.

A&M has both conservative and liberal groups on campus. A&M has been historically VERY conservative, and most likely due to its military involvement. However, in my 3 years experience at A&M I have found the students and campus to be very accepting of opposing views. President Obama visited a month or so back, and while much of the campus was divided on his presence, there are many students whom supported him and continue to do so regardless of political affiliation. Personally, I considerate myself a moderate. I don’t participate in involvement with any political organization here, and not because I don’t care for politics, but because I am open to different opinions and like to consider my options. There are plenty of people like me here at A&M as well. So while the school largely leans right, there is a pretty decent array of people and views that seem to blend together pretty well. Your daughter should definitely not scratch it off her list because of what she has heard about the institution. A&M is a great school, with great opportunities and learning experiences.

Thank you for your response. I am encouraged by your honest description of the school and I am relieved that my daughter was pleased by the response.

(It seems weird to see a user name so close to mine)
Texas A&M is more concervative than many college campus. But college kids being what they are - are more liberal in general than adults, more tolerant of different opinions.
