Conservative Ivy

You don't necessarily have to go to college to be successful, either.

Alrihgt, it is nice that you guys are discussing differences between conservatives and libs: it is nice that there is more diversity in thought here then in many ivies. Back to my original question..

I would think that cornell would be relatively conservative since it is the only Ivy that allows ROTC: every other ivy (exception princeton) has booted them off due to the hippy mentality of the 70's. It has remained that way for about 30-40 years do partly to the fact that people with this mindset have flooded many of these schools.

I dont expect Cornell to be conservative at all; I would have to wait till hell froze over before that happened. The fact that they allow them in indicates to me that this Ivy actually does want diversity in both your thought and in background. I'm sure it employes affmative action and some multiculturual nonsense, but it does, at least to some degree (a bit small), in wanting more diversity in thought. If you think most Ivy's want that, you are dead wrong i.e. Harvard and the Lawrence effect.

So you want diversity in thought, but not diversity in culture? Sure, that makes a lot of sense....

conservatives want to take away your social freedoms... purportedly for the sake of preserving the "moral fabric" of society

liberals want to take away your economic freedoms... purportedly "for the greater good"

libertarianism is the only political philosophy that does not try to limit your rights for the sake of some other supposed gain.

'liberals want to take away your economic freedoms... purportedly "for the greater good"'

Economic freedoms = code word for making the rich richer and the poor poorer. Libertarianism is a joke.

I am sure that your ideal countries, such as the USSR, North Korea, Cuba should be the model for the rest of the world, right? Multiculturalism and diversity are two of the most ******** concepts.

"I am sure that your ideal countries, such as the USSR, North Korea, Cuba should be the model for the rest of the world, right?"
No, I do not support tyranny. How is that relevant, anyway

"Multiculturalism and diversity are two of the most ******** concepts."
America is a diverse nation. Open your eyes and get out of your little bubble. Oh, and stop reading Ayn Rand.

As a matter of fact I just finished my favorite Marx book and I am starting a new book by Noam Chomsky and Hillary Clinton.

"Economic freedoms = code word for making the rich richer and the poor poorer. Libertarianism is a joke."

freedom doesnt "make" anyone rich or poor... it simply allows people to get richer or poorer as they please. also... the income gap becoming wider doesnt matter if poor people are still experiencing growth in real income.

"it simply allows people to get richer or poorer as they please."

Wrong, some people have inherent advantages, both fair and unfair.

"code word for making the rich richer and the poor poorer."

The whole liberal way of thinking is right here. "making" the rich richer and poor poorer? Why do you want the government to have anything to do with this? Obviously you realize that without the governements help you would be poor because your not bright enough to be otherwise.

The rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer is in most case bcasuse the rich make wise decisions and the poor make stupid decisions. outside of inheritance on the rich side and some bad luck medical problems etc on the poor side, the difference is that the rich is smart and the poor is stupid.

And I come from a low middle class family and said the same thing when I was a kid.

Dartmouth has ROTC.

Interestingly enough I never thought that way. In India my family was pretty affluent, but when we came here we were just middle class. However, I never despaired about shortage of $, and neither did I once think that the government should do anything about it.

my god, youre an idiot. all poor people are poor because they stupid? all poor people are poor because they made stupid decisions?

you seem like you believe in social darwinism, a theory that can easily be proven false.

There is only one economic theory I would advocate: capitalism. It is the only system which allows mobility, and rewards hard work and excellence.

everyone chill. The OP didn't ask for a summary of your own political views or a definition of "conservative" and "liberal." He wanted to know about specific college environments. This is a college discussion forum and all.

"Libertarianism is a joke."

I am not a libertarian, but I do agree with the social platform more than any other. However, to call Libertarianism a joke is ridiculous. Libertarians are trying to get back to how/why this country was founded. If you think that is a joke, then you are in the wrong country. That is how it was founded, you should appreciate the party's roots. You don't have to agree.

"all poor people are poor because they stupid? all poor people are poor because they made stupid decisions?"

No, if you actually read my post you would have seen that I clarly said most not every. The majority of people are where they are because of their own decisions. I see it every single day. Stupid people complaining that they are broke yet buying rims for their car on credit card. People that look at me like I'm stupid because I save a majority of the money I make, they ask "what are you saving for" as if the only reason to save money is to buy something.

But that's ok, because those people won't be any competition for me, I know people that make more money than me and have less in the bank, and it's not because they have kids or a mandatory expense. It's because they blow their money on stupid stuff. When I save and invest my money.

"Libertarians are trying to get back to how/why this country was founded."
**** that; Libertarians want to dismantle every social safety net we have, they want to starve the government, they want to create basically anarchy.

"You don't have to agree."
And I won't, and I will argue against it. Free speech.

"No, if you actually read my post you would have seen that I clarly said most not every. The majority of people are where they are because of their own decisions."
Most people can't inherent lots of money from their rich daddy's. It's funny how no matter how many stupid decisions Bush made, he just rose higher and higher.

America never was a 'diverse' nation up until now (unless you're talking about the diversity of its European body). America has always been Black and White (with a very small other racial minority) and should go back to it. All this third world immigration is going to make us a third world country.

I'm sorry but I hate multiculturalism and everything it stands for. It's taking America away from us. It's destroying national sovereignty and preparing the world for a one-world government.
