You *ing racist piece of *.

"I'm sorry but I hate multiculturalism and everything it stands for. It's taking America away from us. It's destroying national sovereignty and preparing the world for a one-world government."

Wow, you sound JUST like Hitler in this paragraph. I hate to make the comparison, but damn.... Replace "multiculturalism" with "Judaism" and you'll see the resemblence.

Das Bier your comments are almost as inane as the ones you are trying to argue against. Immigration is what makes America great by creating a market of ideas. Turn off immigration, and this greatness will surely end.

klp: Since you have proven yourself to be incapable of stringing words togather to form coherent arguments, let me simplify this for you
1)Social nets are totally unnecessary. HK has no social nets and they are doing fine. Social nets allow people to leech of the productive ones. Take that away, and believe it, people would work
2)The richest men in the world did not inherit their money. Gates, Mittal, Buffet, Kamprad, all came from modest backgrounds. Don't even try to pull that.
3)Honestly, try to cite some specifics before starting an orgy of Bush bashing.

Oh, and don't make yourself sound even more ludicrous by comparing the guy to Hitler.

"1)Social nets are totally unnecessary. HK has no social nets and they are doing fine. Social nets allow people to leech of the productive ones. Take that away, and believe it, people would work"

Actually, when you don't have social safety nets, you get the Great Depression. You need them in order to protect people when something screws up, so they can get back on their feet. Then, as soon as they get their job back or whatever, the welfare or whatever isn't needed anymore.

"2)The richest men in the world did not inherit their money. Gates, Mittal, Buffet, Kamprad, all came from modest backgrounds. Don't even try to pull that."
I only know Gates, but Gates came from a wealthy family. His parents sent him to expensive prep school, from where he went to Harvard, made his contacts, and dropped out. Sure, he got much richer than his parents, but he wasn't born in the inner-city to a single mom.

"3)Honestly, try to cite some specifics before starting an orgy of Bush bashing."
Aw, but it's so fun.

http://www.hkcss.org.hk/folder/socialwelfare/sw_eng.htm
In 2003/2004, the Government allocated HK$32.764 billions for welfare spending, among which HK$23.183 billions, HK$2.659 billions and HK$6.922 billions were allocated for social security, direct services operated by the Social Welfare Department, and different services operated by voluntary services respectively. In addition, in 2003/2004, through organizing fund-raising activities in the community and self-financing programmes, voluntary agencies got more than HK$35 billions.

So you want diversity in thought, but not diversity in culture? Sure, that makes a lot of sense....
[/quote]

It does make sense. What this "multicultural" nonsense means in college admissions is: Are you black? Are you Asian? If your Asian, they run the assumption that you must think like an Asian. It is superficial and absurd.

However, if the applicant has been to, grew up in, spent significant time in other countries/cultures or can demonstrate a unique perspective on life (via essays, ECs etc), then of course, that is fair game.

By proxy, if you have diversity in thought, you will have diversity in culture.

If you are trying to argue that the current system of trying to advocate "multiculturism" is resulting in an array of diverse views, you are living in the land of Ozz.

This tread has been been de-railed to another topic, which is ok; however, my question has not been sufficiently answered :(..

"sorry to sound cruel, but if these people that are becoming homeless b/c they are on minimum wage, they should have gone to college! (sorry, I had to say it.)

Now that I hear all these things about liberals and conservatives, I think it's all bu11$hit. I believe that people should work hard in school, get a good job, yatta yatta. Anyone can do it, even lower income people, like me. That's what I love about America--opportunity. I believe everyone should have an equal opportunity, but they should work their as$es off, like I'm doing! I don't need a politicial group to back me up on that."

"I just feel with a will, there's a way."

Fuzz, I use to agree with you. Then i became really ill. If my parents did not have the money to support me there would be no way i could have made it to college as i was not healthy enough to work let alone study and work. Life can sometimes throw you a curve ball, some people really CANT help themselves. I realise most people find this hard to understand until they are in the position themselves. I hope you never have to experiences being unable to work or function as it is a really horrible and vulnerable position to be in.

sid, those are words of wisdom. I feel for you, and thanks for your best wishes. I hope I didn't come off as cold-hearted. I was just frustrated at how SOME people who complain about their low position don't do anything about it. But your example says it all: life doesn't always work perfectly. I truly feel sorry for all of those people who get hardballs thrown at them.

just want to make one (tiny) little point:

America has always been a nation of many nations. Why do so many people celebrate St. Patricks day today? Because the Irish were the immigrants at one point - they were the lower class, the stupid people, the downtrodden. Now, they are the upper middle class, the mainstream America, etc. A mixing pot of origins and experiences is what makes America so great - and so successful. Immigration drives our economy. There is no original American, so anyone who claims that all people of foreign backgrounds should leave, should leave.

My family (myself included, although I was a baby) immigrated here from what you'd probably consider a third world country, and I can say we've contributed a hell of a lot more to society than many natives. You might want to try actually thinking before you post, lest you expose even more of your ignorance.

^This is truly the most insensitive, annoying, rash, and [clearly] illogical post I've read on this forum. DS, you really need to T-H-I-N-K before you post statements like this. -_-

I hate multiculturalism in the fact that it's enforced: I have no problem with every culture living in America and attending schools - I have a problem with affirmative action, with "sensitivity training", with any comment being "sexual harassment", with people getting bashed as insensitive and intolerant because of their "gender-normativism" and "hetero-sexism", and trying to FORCE everyone to think the same - I have no problem with diversity, but I have a problem with conformity disguised as diversity

If anyone thinks that immigration sucks, come live in Japan. See how "wonderful" it really is living in a nation of ethnically 99% identical people.

Well, I suppose it's good if, like my friend, you find them attractive. Otherwise, it blows. It's boring.
