I'm planning on majoring in Biochem and Molecular Bio. I've been thinking about minoring in Nutrition Science and/or Anthropology. First, any thoughts on how feasible fulfilling the requirements for this major and a minor(s)? Second, any word on the difficulty of BCMB classes, Chem classes, or just the BCMB major in general is appreciated. I haven't done much research into the premed program, but if anyone can send a great link to get me started that would be helpful. I'm off to google about it right now.

^^ This is the link to the requirements for the BCMB major. If you click on ‘degree requirements’ you can get a better view of what classes you’ll have to take. You can click on the classes to get class descriptions.

I have a few friends who are BCMB majors. They really love their major classes. The classes are semi-difficult, but I haven’t heard too many horror stories about it. Chem has a couple of hard classes, but they’re doable.

How easy it would be to minor in either of those depends on what credits you’re coming in with. My roommate is a Chem/linguistics double major and she’s able to fit all of her requirements into four years (even with adding linguistics later), and there’s no overlap between those majors. Good planning and not changing your mind will keep you here for only four years (or at least it should). Just keep in mind that classes taken for majors/minors can’t overlap (a requirement taken for your major can’t count towards your minor and visa versa), but if you double majored, then they’d be able to overlap.

^^ Premed website with loads of information
Take some time to browse around that website. There’s a TONNNNN of stuff there. When you get to UGA, plan on going to an orientation early so you don’t have to worry about it (it’s required of all premeds). Just keep an eye out for the dates. They’ll announce them.

Let me know if you have any specific questions :)

(BTW, just as a side note…from personal experience and from those I’ve talked to…double majoring looks MUCH better than major/minor…it’ll look like you took the initiative and challenge to do the whole thing and not just part of it)
