Have you guys contacted your roommates yet? I haven't contacted them and they havent contacted me yet. I'm thinking I'll probably call them tomorrow. Won't it be strange to just call them like that? Anyways, what should I talk to them about? Just introduce myself and then talk about who is going to bring the television, vacuum cleaner and so on?

Do you have their email addresses?

Yes, when you call them, definitely have a goal so there isn't room for awkwardness or silence or "So, how's your summer going?"

I only have their phone numbers

If you want to email and not call, here's what you can do:

Since you have their phone number, search it on the ucla directory (http://www.directory.ucla.edu/) and if your roommate didn't take down their number from the directory, you'll find their name and email there.

i met mine at the UCLA stanford game.

I contacted them the day roomie info got out. I looked their phone numbers up on Google and found their last names, then searched for them on Facebook and messaged one girl. The other girl was going by a nickname, so I called her straight up and told her I was her roomie. And then we tried to set up a chat room so we could talk about who's bringing what.

Maybe it's a good thing that you waited so long, because I totally forgot what I was supposed to bring by now.

yea...you dont wanna call them before, say...FB, cuz when i first called my roomie, he didnt pick up and i left a message...its really awkward...

well I tried the UCLA directory and google, and their names arent there. Looks like I have no choice but to call them? Is is really that awkward to call them? I don't see what's wrong with it, but my roommates may certainly be thrown off?

It's not awkward. Sheesh.

Just do it.

why would they be throw off? they should be expecting a call or thinking of calling just like you are. if they think that they're just going to meet their roomies when they move in though that could be a problem

well, thats just my experience...but in the end, its all good
