I was interviewed by a Penn graduate but I got rejected…so I was wondering is it a similar type of interview or…
What makes you tick, what would you contribute to community at Middlebury? What kind of alum would you make? The interviewer will not dwell on your academic qualifications that is for sure (they won’t know your academic stats). They simply want to know if you are the kind of student who will contribute to the community, and if so, how? As I am sure you already know, Middlebury has a strong alumni association and the alums that interview do play a part in the admissions decisions. They are counted upon to give the admissions committee a better sense of the applicant outside of the actual application. So my best advice for you is to go into your interview expecting to have a fun conversation.
Thanks. I’m gonna talking about my tutoring passions and my interests in helping other underprivileged children. Though I’m not sure how to connect it to Middlebury yet.
D was also contacted today for an interview. She had decided to stop requesting interviews in the fall because it was just too much stress. When I looked at the common data set, the interview is “considered” but not important or very important. Of course, because alumni contacted her, she will do the interview but we were a little surprised. If its not that important, why the request by Middlebury?
@the Pariah: If its like any of the other interviews D has been on, they are pretty informal. Sure, you should know your facts about the school and of course show your love (although interest again is not considered all that important so I’m confused) but I think its best to be relaxed, let them know why you think the school fits you.
The interview isn’t going to make you or break you unless you are obviously nuts or a diva. They carry little or no weight, and are mostly for you to get info about the school.
Okay yeah. I thought one of the reasons I got rejected by Penn was because I stuttered during the interview…lol.
No, I don’t think that would be a good reason to reject someone. Try and let that go, relax, show interest and make sure you have some basic knowledge of Midd, but try and enjoy it!
Okay basic knowledge I’ll research for a week before the interview. Thanks! (My interviewer is a girl again, darn it)
Don’t mean to hijack this thread but I was just contacted by an alum for an interview, she explicitly said that Middlebury wants her to interview me 0.0! I can only interpret this as them wanting to get to know me better because they’re prob on the fence, considering how late in the game this is.
I believe that Middlebury reaches out to all applicants for alumni interviews (might be geography issues for some) sine they do not do campus interviews. My D had one a month ago with a young alum. I think these interviews are to confirm interest and unless you make an ass of yourself, they have little if any influence in the process. Not responding to the request would be an issue.
Exactly why D did the interview. I can’t imagine that refusing an interview doesn’t count against you, even is very slightly. There has to be a spot to check: interview, yes or interview, refused.
The interview was today and it lasted a little over 1.5 hours. It was off to a rocky start since we were both late due to the snowstorm, but it went really well. I can honestly say it was the most relaxed I’ve been in an interview and I can tell my interviewer loved her time at Midd.
