Contacting Admission office

I need to contact Penn (eventually other schools) to ask if certain credits would transfer or meet their requirements for admission.

I know calling the office, would give me a direct answer, but I feel nervous. Do I need to introduce myself and say what school I'm in or can I simply just ask my question?

Just ask your question. First of all, most of the people working at admissions answering phones do so for work-study. Very rarely do actual admissions counselors actually answer questions. Regardless, unless you insult the person continuously, they won't note you. They get a hundred calls a day. Just relax, introduce yourself and your school briefly and get to the point.

On the flipside, somebody that got into Cornell recently mentioned that he felt that his consistent contact with somebody in the admissions office positively impacted his application =)

Relax, it's just a phone call.

Javous, the person who picks up will most likely be an undergrad and unless you ask an obscure question they will not redirect the call to an admissions officer. Just be really chill about it; I've seen their phones ( I guess I sound stalker-ish haha). If you "mess up" or if they think you don't know enough about Penn there is no way it will hurt you because they won't know who you are and there Violaghost is right; there is nothing you can do, in your right mind, that will make them so upset as to actually go out of their way and make a note about what happened. Unless the school matters in the question you are asking ( for example, in the instance of a community college it may) then state where you are from.
Best of luck!

When I was applying for transfer to Cornell...I had lots of questions. I called the CALS office and simply said, "Hi, my name is _____ and I am an applicant for Fall 2005 transfer to CALS".....then I would ask my question.

Oh and with the phones thing I meant to say I know they don't have caller ID so they can't hunt you down haha.

Ha, I remember calling a school before freshman year and getting a person who was clearly a student, and I asked a ridiculously long question that had a lot of detail in it, and when I was done, the girl didn't respond for a while, and then said, "...let me connect you with an admissions officer." Also, some schools simply won't connect you with an admission's officer without first asking your question (understandable, considering most will be simple questions about credit, applications, etc.), but it was frustrating for me cause I knew only an admissions officer could answer my question.

Really? Wow that is ridiculous. I usually just act rude and snappy until the undergrad transfers my call, and usually they do it quickly. After that, I transform into an obsequious angel :-D.
