My first admissions cycle didn’t go quite as I planned, but I’m happy to go to the school I’m going to and I know I may end up wanting to stay. I already know what I’m going to be involved in and I super excited to meet new people and be in a new city! However, my brother went through the same thing as me and ended up transferring to his dream school, so I’ve seen it happen first hand. We’re also pretty similar students. I know I need to give my current school a chance and go in with the idea that I will be graduating from there, but in case I do want to transfer to another school (I actually have a specific school in mind and the while the school is one of the hardest to get into as a first-year applicant, the transfer rate actually isn’t bad at all) I have a few questions about the transfer process that I need to address with admissions. Is it too early to contact them? I really need to ask them some questions, and I don’t want to wait until it’s too late.
@skieurope I know people that were rejected form certain schools solely because they didn’t fulfill requirements. I’m not going to not be prepared as possible just because someone online thinks I’m not giving my school a chance.
@Ashtash Since you already have decided what you want to do, why bother to pose the question here? If you want to contact admissions to clarify something nobody on CC will stop you.
Not meeting requirements is certainly a valid reason for an application to be rejected. IME, is a college has specific requirements, they list those requirements online. If the website does not give you the information you want, then yes, you can certainly contact for clarification.
@happy1 Because I don’t want it to come off as not giving my current school a chance because I am giving it a chance. It is in fact possible to prepare in advance for these sorts of things. I would just hate to not be prepared if I do decide to transfer.
When I was applying for schools, I made the mistake of not applying to a safety liberal arts school. As far as liberal arts goes, I only applied to Bowdoin and Middlebury. I was waitlisted and rejected, respectively. I should’ve applied to an LAC with a higher chance of admissions. I didn’t recognize how much I value liberal arts until after applying to schools. The school I am attending as of now is about the farthest thing from liberal arts. After the first four or so months of school I think I’ll be able to better evaluate how much I truly value liberal arts as part of my college experience. I just want to be prepared in case I do decide this experience is a priority of mine. Don’t worry, I won’t be applying as a transfer to Bowdoin. I am very aware of their transfer acceptance rate(:
I’m looking forward to the coming year. I’m in touch with student organizations and look forward to delving into classes and other aspects of the school. However, I’m an extremely anxious person who constantly has several plans in place, but I’m aware plans change, which is why I have a very open and flexible mind-set. I appreciate your input, as well as skieurope’s and I understand where y’all are coming from.
