You could email your admissions officer and ask for an explanation. Will you get a good, not canned response? Probably not. Is it worth a shot? Well, you’ve really got nothing to lose, right?

Yes. They will probably have your file easily to hand, and no doubt will have a spare few hours to sit down with you and discuss everything you could have done better. I’m sure they have nothing better to do. Have fun.

If I go, will there be a chance that they will not even discuss anything with me? Do schools usually note why a candidate was rejected, or is the file just thrown away right after the decision is made?

Holy crap why do you care? It doesnt matter, just apply to other schools. They dont have time to tell you why you were rejected, they have other stuff to do…
If your really obsessed with this just call the admissions office, dont drive 2 hours away since im 99% sure your not gonna what what your looking for.

There’s NO WAY on earth you’d get anything in the way of anything substantial – only vague generalities. They’ll only say you were among an intensely competitive pool and it was difficult to decide. Two words: “potential lawsuit”

If you want tips on your application, I suggest you post on the CC College Admissions forum.

^ agree with T26E4… you’ll probably get a super general answer. And I’m sure you’re not the first person to do this, I remember some admissions officer telling me about how he had parents call him ranting about why they rejected so-and-so fabulous child, and their response was always: “competitive pool” :/
