Contemplating my options

Just wanted some input from some of you guys as I try to figure out where I will go next year!

I'm seriously considering Wake, UNC-CH, and UVA. I've always known Wake (alum. child), and have visited campus countless times, been to countless games, etc...

I'm just having an incredibly hard time trying to come to some sort of conclusion on where I want to go to next year as each school is so great. Major sticking point with Wake is the cost though. When compared to UNC, it is almost 4x more over the four year span.

Any insight or advice from anyone?

What are your academic interests? Do you want a smaller, almost LAC college experience? - or a larger, but still excellent, State U experience? Are you in state (Va. or Nc.)? Do you feel you may be competitive for merit-aid at any of them? In my opinion, the types of students are going to be similar at these three (a fairly large overlap in applicants). These are just a few things to consider, IMO. I think everyone will agree that you can receive a top-notch education at ANY of these schools. Good luck! (btw: I’m a Junior seriously considering all 3 of these)

I live in NC, so UNC is easily the cheapest. I don’t believe I’m competitive for any further aid. I’m still thinking about an engineering approach, which UVA gives be the best opportunity, but UNC does offer a BME major.

And good luck in your college process as well!

I love Wake Forest - but if you were my son - and were in state for Chapel Hill and the cost differntial was that substantial - you’d be going to Chapel Hill!

I agree with Rockvillemom. As a non-NC resident, Chapel Hill seems hard to pass up for in state. Though a specific type of engineering, such as BME, may be easier to accomplish at UVA or UNC…I think it could certainly be done at Wake. Good luck! Wherever you decide to attend, you’re sure to receive a fantastic education!

in state - chapel hill b/c of cost

out of state - UVA b/c you’re doing engineering

wake doesn’t have its own engineering (split with vandy) so if you’re going to do that you should go to UVA. but if its not engineering, wake takes the cake for me

I got about two years free at Miami and still chose Wake. I would strongly consider how much financial burden this is putting on your family while deciding this. My parents wouldn’t really let me look at tuition costs when decided where to go (this way, I would decide based on the school and not on how much it was). I understand that for many families this is impossible and that I am so blessed to have not had to really taken money into consideration. However, with a school as expensive as Wake, many people must take this into serious thought.

If you really love Wake and couldn’t see yourself anywhere else, I’d pick Wake. I would talk to your parents candidly about your financial situation before deciding this. I would not go to Wake if it would put you or your parents in a bad financial situation.
