My Wake visit report

From what i hear, very friendly student body, but they are actually conservative politically (one of the 2 non-religious schools I've heard this about).

thanks warbler

Unfortunately, not many people have heard of Wake, but academically it is great. It is very rigorous, however, and has some of the worst grade deflation in the country. It is basically a LAC, but far different in terms of the type of students that attend, who are generally very conservative (of course there are exceptions with the fairly large number of students from the northeast.) They are also usually quite high up on the SES scale, and as a result very preppy (not too dissimilar from BC). It has a great atmosphere, tons of school spirit (it will be better in 2 years when the current bball recruiting class develops, they have some real potential). Just won the ACC championship in football, and I was down there for the game vs. BC, students are much more intense sports wise than at BC, they care much more. As I said before, academically you will be challenged, I really believe this is one of the top places for undergrad education, its too bad that barely anyone has heard of it (although that may be changing, could be a jump in apps next year). I believe it is still the 3rd least applied to school in the top 30 of USNews, behind Caltech and UChicago.
The only thing that made me not choose Wake was its location, as Winston-Salem really isnt the most exciting place ever, but I know from your previous posts that Notre Dame is your first choice, so the only thing would be whether you want to be in the south or not, as middle of nowhere wouldnt be too big of a deal. (It really isnt, I think I would go to Wake now)

eww... grade deflation huh

yes my first choice is ND, but im starting to like wake a lot

Im kind of concerned by you harsh language of their grade deflation//// I will look into it

thanks ckmets

average GPA of Wake freshmen is a 2.6, i kid you not

omg....... whered you get that from

quite a few people who go there have told me this, I believe the school published it not long ago somewhere. The average GPA for the whole school is somewheres around 2.8 or 2.9

On the flip side, I've heard they include a slip with the transcript explaining the grading practices at Wake.
