Continued updates of college decisions!

Hey all!! Just wanted to update that I got into UCR! I am so excited ((: I got in for undeclared in the College of Letters and Sciences. This is one of the schools that I want to say are a match for me, so I’m really glad I was able to get in! Congrats to all other applicants and good luck! We’re all still stressed waiting for the rest of the UC’s to trickle in … hahah
(I haven’t heard back from UCSC yet, even though I know some have)

Hey all! Thought I would update yalls on how the UC decisions are going … not looking too bright, but I would love to attend any of those that have already accepted me so I am still very thankful!!
Decisions that I have received in the past 2 weeks are as follows [major in brackets]:
Denied @ UC Davis [Economics]
Waitlisted @ UCSC [Undeclared in College of Letters and Science]
Waitlisted @ Santa Clara University [Undeclared in College of Business]
Accepted @ SJSU! [Undeclared]

Thanks for all the kind words that everyone has written in this thread, I appreciate them all so much!! <3

Congratulations on the acceptance to San Jose State! I know that’s one you’ve been waiting for. Looking forward to seeing where you end up!

UCSC took over 6000 applicants off the waitlist last year so not bad odds. Best of luck.

I also wanted to share my top 2 choices for the colleges that have accepted me so far and the reasons for why they are in the spot they are in (:

  1. SJSU: I live approximately 30 minutes away from SJSU, so the location is a great pro because my family is looking to save $$ to support me if and when I pursue a Master’s degree. In addition, I am very interested in its Nursing Program as well as its Clinical Laboratory Scientist Program. My ideal route would be to finish the prerequisite classes for Nursing in the first 1 and 1/2 years (taking summer classes as well), and then (hopefully) passing the TEAS test and ultimately be admitted into Nursing. (I know this is a long shot but as of now it is my dream!) Also, if the Nursing Program doesn’t accept me, I could use those prerequisite classes to fulfill GE requirements, and major in Microbiology to pursue the Clinical Lab Scientist Program. Lastly, SJSU is my top choice because it is located in Silicon Valley and has awesome resources and companies where I can expand my connections and have many intern/work opportunities.

  2. SFSU: Mostly, SFSU is my second choice because it has both the Nursing Program and the CLS program as does SJSU, but it is just a tad bit farther away from my home. I would maybe even say that SJSU and SFSU are tied for me right now!

Thank you for updating us! This is great news about SJSU. Sounds like both SJSU and SFSU offer your major, and at a price that makes good sense given you future plans and dreams. Go get 'em!

Hi everyone!!
Since college admission season is over for me, I thought I’d share where I’m going and my experience throughout the whole process. Hopefully, some people will find it useful! :))

Starting off with where I’m going, I am committing to San Jose State University (Go Spartans!) for the major Undeclared, and hopefully applying to the Nursing Major! As I mentioned in an earlier post, my first choice came down to SJSU and SFSU, and the only thing separating these schools was the location/distance from my home. SFSU is slightly farther away from my home than SJSU, and I will be commuting so SJSU will be more convenient for me.

In addition, I wanted to share some of the most important things that I learned from the college admissions process.

  1. Essays are a great way of showing your personality, so do try to really be yourself and express who you are through words! Especially for the UC essays, I felt like the prompts were really general so they provided a range of topics that I could answer, and in all of them I was able to show my personality.
  2. Definitely consider doing a sport or some sort of extracurricular all throughout high school. I recommend doing whatever truly interests you: music, theater, sports, etc. whatever it may be, for all four years to show that you really do care about this extracurricular. From my experience, I actually did not do a sport (which I regret!), but I did do music for 10+ years and this has always been a hobby of mine.
  3. Lastly, choose a school that really fits you. I was also accepted into USFCA, and name-wise (for some people), it might be more prestigious than SJSU because it’s a private school. But, I chose SJSU over USFCA because of the variety of programs that it offers that fit my interest (namely, the Nursing program that I can apply for, as well as the CLS program if I don’t get into the Nursing Program). USFCA is of course an awesome school, but the nursing program is direct admit and I’d like to attend a school that has a wider array of programs where I can explore different interests before settling on one.

Thank you all so so much for being supportive throughout my college decisions journey and I hope you all have an awesome rest of your day!
