Chances - UCs and CSUs

Hi, I’ve made a couple of these but now I have SAT results and a UC GPA. Overall, I feel that I am lower than average for the average UC applicant but a lot higher than the average CSU applicant. Please help.

Unweighted GPA: 3.55
Weighted GPA: 3.85
UC GPA: 3.78
Rank: ~75/550 Top 15% at school, possibly top 9% in state
School: Average public school in northern california - 50ish students accepted each year to UCs from here
New SAT: 1290 (English: 620, Math: 670) (Writing: 6, 7, 7) Taking the SAT again tomorrow
EI (For CSU schools): 4306

Courseload:
9th: a-g courses: English 9 Honors (the only C+ in my life), Geometry Honors, Biology Honors, Spanish 2, , World Geography, You & the Law
non a-g: Computer Tech, California History, PE, Health

10th: a-g: World History and Modern Cultures, AP World History, Algebra 2, Spanish 3, Chemistry, English 10, International Relations
non a-g: PE, State and Local Government

11th: a-g: Intro to political studies, animation, AP english lang and comp, physics, trig, AP spanish lang and culture, AP US History
non a-g: accounting

12th (Planned): a-g: AP English Literature and Comp, AP Micro econ, AP Macro econ, AP Gov, Precal, Psychology I
non a-g: general business, business law

of AP Classes: 8

of a-g classes: 26

Extracurriculars/Activities:

100+ hours of volunteering at elementary school

4 years - Member of Career Pathway/Academy focused on Government/Law (1 year - treasurer)

1 year - Member of freshman mentoring group that meets biweekly and during summer to help freshman transition to high school

nearly 2 years (1200+ hours) - Volunteer and manager on online community with over 2 million unique users: I manage and collaborate with volunteers from different ages ranging from 12 to 30 from dozens of countries around the world. Company is registered as an LLC in California and owned by two guys in their mid 20’s with vast development experience. This isn’t the most traditional volunteer experience you find so I am not sure of its value to schools.

I am most interested in either something like International Studies or Global Economics or something within business or the social sciences.

Schools:
UCLA
UC Irvine
UC Davis
UC San Diego
UC Santa Barbara
UC Santa Cruz

San Diego State
CSU, Long Beach
Cal Poly SLO
Sacramento State

SDSU/CSULB: Match
Sac State: Safety
UCSC/SLO: High Match
UCD/UCI/UCSB: Low Reach
UCSD/UCLA: Reach
Just based on stats, UC GPA a bit low for most of the UC’s. If leaning toward business, add UCR which has a very good Business school.
EC’s look good and if you write some outstanding essays, these could have a positive impact on your chances.

Good luck.

Hey,

With all of your accomplishments, your CSU schools should be safeties (I’m OOS so I could be wrong).

But for the UC schools, their GPAS are much higher, especially UCSB (4.2) and UCLA (4.5) so those might be reaches. Since you really can’t bring up your GPA also, just do your best to bring your SAT, no matter what it takes.

Hope this helps and best of luck to you!

thanks @JezRanger1

Based on what you’ve provided, I’m predicting this:
UCLA - Rejected (low SAT, very low GPA)
UC Irvine - Rejected (very low GPA)
UC Davis - Rejected (very low GPA)
UC San Diego - Rejected (low SAT, very low GPA)
UC Santa Barbara - Rejected (low SAT, very low GPA)
UC Santa Cruz - Accepted

San Diego State - Accepted
CSU, Long Beach - Accepted
Cal Poly SLO - Accepted
Sacramento State - Accepted

Try to get a 1400+ SAT for UCI/UCD/UCSB/UCSD and a 1520+ SAT for UCLA. Good luck!
