controversial essay?

i've got a couple of topics in mind but i wonder if these two are too controversial:
*The day my geography teacher took my virginity
*Why each and every country should have nuclear weapons

Discuss

1 is overused. Put a spin on it.

2 is odd. Are you selling nuclear weapons? If so, expand on that.

1 could go over really well, really awkwardly, or really badly. It would have to be tastefully written, and even then, it seems iffy...

2 could be interesting. If that idea helps define who you are, then go for it. I don't know what essay topic that would be for, though. Global, local or national issue on the common app.?

I guess what I'm saying is that both essays would make you stand out, but not necessarily in the way you'd want.

This is a joke.

1: Are you serious? I think that is by far the most disturbing essay topic I have ever seen. (Not to mention writing about it would be bordering X-rated)

2:What's with this one? Why don't you just tell them more about you? It's not a class . . .

1: seriously, what is this? unless you're over 18 when this happened, you do know you'll be talking about a crime to adcoms, right?

2: sounds a little normal compared to the first one, but still strange...

It must be a joke, but I enjoyed reading it.

1: This could be interesting if there was a goat involved. If not? Booooring.

2: You should only write about nuclear weapons if you plan on giving them to homeless people.

I would like to read an essay that proves the wisdom of giving nukes to homeless people. Go with that. Teacher/student sex is too used.

don't most applications give you a general topic to write about? how would the 2nd idea fit in one of these general topics?

"describe something you are very passionate about"

That could fit for number one, too, if the OP and the geometry teacher run away together.

Nope, it was a Geography teacher. There must have been some sort of farm animal involved...perferably a goat. Running away with a Geometry teacher just doesn't cut it.

As for the homeless nukies...I'd just like to see begger signs threatening nuclear war if you don't give them a couple bucks.

I saw a really hilarious one up in Philadelphia last summer. Can't recall the exact phrasing...something about Vietnam...but I gave him five bucks for the creativity. It was also written very pretty-like; I was very impressed.

You want an essay to be bitter sweet, not horrid, IMHO
If you write about a nuclear bomb, at least have a little child image in it somethere

LOL @ katho11. OP, you are not serious about #1 are you? I agree that that is the most disturbing essay topic I have ever heard if you are.

I dunno about involving children, fizik. A short story I wrote for a UIL competition in 2nd grade landed me in the principle's office.

Apparently 2nd graders aren't supposed to write about a family's house burning down and their cat dying. Who'd of thunk it? I still think I was just ahead of my time.

Haha, but I went on to write great articles for my HS paper about bands nobody around here was cool enough to know about before...I should so get a cut of those bands' profits!

So #1 is an overused topic? Tons of people write to their colleges about blatant crimes that not only would get them in unbelievable trouble but the teacher as well? Tons of college-bound students have sex with their teachers?

Either I'm being taken in on a sarcastic response or I am a thousand times more naive about the world than I thought. Or both.

Oh...#1 is a very serious matter. Just think of the thousands of innocent goats involved each year! PETA is outraged about it!

On a more serious note...if the homeless people of the world possessed nuclear weapons, we'd all be a lot safer in the long run. Unless, of course, some moron installed little red buttons on them...then we'd be screwed.

Someone please inform my uninformed self on the background and "overuse" of #1.

I agree with hornplayer.

lmao essay topic #1 is the funniest thing i've ever read on CC

and you guys who keep wondering how essay topic #1 is overused, everyone is being sarcastic... lol
