controversial

I need to write a short essay on a controversial issue on college campuses, and a solution to the issue. Any ideas on some controversial issues?

At GA. Tech fairly recently, one conservative club wanted to post signs/protest gays on campus. The school intervened and told them that they couldn't do that (that it violated school policy concerning acts of descrimination)- they fought it on the grounds of free speech. I'm not sure how this was resolved, but you might do a search to find some of the news articles.

Well, besides affirmative action or parts of the admissions process,

(I mostly only know about ASU, but Im sure that these issues carry on to other campuses)
- At ASU last year, some guy created a Caucasian Club, theres probably some articles on it.
- How school rivalries are taken too far (UofA painting a red A on ASU's mountain ruining priceless native american hieroglyphics)

And then some general ones:
- Financial aid/'need-blind' schools
- Advising
- Like the poster above, discrimination
- Liberal vs. Conservative professors

Things like that.

Hah, Caucasian Club. Sounds perfectly fair to me. Why should the right to make "racially"/ ethnically based clubs fall solely to non-Caucasian groups? If the Caucasian club doesn't preach hate-speech, why not? I personally think RBCs and EBCs cause more division and resentment than harmony under the surface, but in this case, the playing field is leveled out.

P.S. I'm going to look up this club, and I'm saying this as a multi-racial American young adult.

plagiarism, both by students and professors (just be careful not to broad-brush insult all professors, or students, for the sins of a few)

gay couples who can share a campus room officially together, while straight couples can't

read the "Class Divide" thread this week on CC, re:Amherst College, if you're applying to an elite school. The issue: why are middle class families underrepresented (14%) at elite colleges (more are poor or wealthy).
even though most of the country is middle class.

As for solving these...hey, that's YOUR essay!!!
