My sister, a UCLA alumn (good student; Stanford grad), put it this way when I asked her where I should go: “Go to Cal. It’s much more prestigious. It will help you get into an elite grad school. UCLA is fun, but you seem serious about your education so go to Cal. It’s student body is more academically focused and it is known around the world.”

I was shocked… The reason why I asked her of all people is because I thought she would say “Go to UCLA!! GO BRUINS!” (b/c I was leaning toward UCLA at the time) but she said the unimaginable (she’s a big Bruins fan.)

:O

I know how tempting UCLA’s amazing buildings and campus are… But, to be honest, you’ll get accustomed to that stuff after a week and won’t even notice it anymore.

Actually, no, my STEP Masters of Arts of Education sister is not wrong. Sorry.

Not only has she studied these things at the graduate level, she works at a college preparatory school for underprivileged students with a 100 percent to-4-yr college rate. Her school has many people who specialize in college decisions and planning. Prestige matters when applying to elite graduate schools.

Why are people arguing about this? Both schools are on par with one another. OP, pick where you would be happiest. You really can’t go wrong either way.

no need to get all angry bro, im just saying I know for a fact both law school and med school care more about your GPA and Lsat/Mcat scores rather than where you received your undergraduate education and MBA programs look at gpa but gmat + work experience

mikei, you need to calm down. UCLA and Cal are about the same prestige-wise nationally. At this point, it’s all about fit. And don’t follow what your sis says blindly, research it and ask the admissions people directly. Do you think they’re really gonna care THAT much if you went to UCLA or Cal? Pick a school on the resources it offers you and a school that fosters your growth, not prestige. Cal’s prestige alone is not gonna land your grad school acceptance.
