something that i really enjoyed while i was there - the size. it’s perfect. it’s big enough to offer all sorts of classes, electives, and activities while still being small enough that honestly, i probably only took 3-4 classes that had more than 30 students. (and those were low-level science courses i needed for gen-ed requirements). all of my classes junior and senior year were usually around 25-30 people, and some of them were a lot less (for example, my spanish conversation class was capped at 12 people!). it’s a really great way to get to know your professors, and other students in your major. and in general, most of your classes will be with actual professors, and not a ta or phd student, like what often happens at the big state schools.

the size is also good socially, it was small enough that i was able to make a good group of friends, and would also see many acquaintances/people i had things in common with at parties or bars, and walking on campus or in class. however, it’s definitely big enough that not everyone knows your business, and i was still meeting new people my senior year.

hmm…so random things that you wouldn’t know about that are awesome:

tulane’s annual crawfest: it’s a huge crawfish boil on the uc quad, tons of great new orleans bands, tons of crawfish, all day long, and is FREE. god i miss crawfest, definitely one of my favorite things about tulane. and EVERYONE attends. i think it’s usually in april.

speaking of april, springtime in new orleans is beautiful. and speaking of the weather, it’s totally awesome going to class in january in jeans and a sweater…no snow, no boots, no coats, no gloves. i don’t know how people trek to school in the snow! and it’s totally awesome to go out and not have to worry about what to do with your coat. as a girl, you can wear your cute clothes all year long.

and really, tulane gives out free food all the time. i am not kidding, my friends and i made a list one time of all the places and times we could get free food or a meal and we realized we could practically eat dinner for free every night of the week if we tried. (free dinner on wednesdays at hillel, free pizza if you go a movie forum/discussion with the latin american studies department, etc. etc.) there were also random days on campus, like a tuesday, where they’ll have free snowballs (kinda like snowcones, but better), candy, or something else.

oh my goodness, and concerts. we had some great ones…can you believe i saw lil wayne, third eye blind, ludacris, vampire weekend, and girl talk on campus?

and do your research about new orleans! the city itself has so much to offer. also, there are tons of great internship opportunities for students, what with the amount of non-profits and cool businesses in the area. i could keep going but i think i hit the main points that i enjoyed. now pick tulane!!
