Cooking on Campus

Hi! I’m an incoming freshman class of '22 due to start soon and I was wondering if anyone had personal experience with the cooking policy. As an avid at-home chef I have alot of gadgets and such that I would hate to leave at home with folks who don’t cook. Namely my Kitchen-Aid stand mixer, cast iron skillet, Pasta-sheeter, hot-pot single gas-cooktop, immersion stick blender, mandolin slicer, ice cream maker, and a few special pots and pans. Would the school have anything against me bringing said stuff with me and possibly storing it the community kitchen on my floor? All input is welcome and much appreciated.

I wouldn’t bring them and store them in the community kitchen. They would be safer at home. You can’t use any of those electric/gas appliances in your room.

Most students move off campus after freshman year. You will be able to put those gadgets to good use then.

I think the townhouses have kitchens in the suites, so if you are able to request townhouses on your housing application, you could bring your stuff. I can’t remember whether you can request them or if it is random.

I applied for housing in the Ecology House. Is that a townhome situation?

Unfortunately not - looks like there is 1 kitchen for the the whole building - similar to a traditional residence hall. You’ll probably have to leave your cooking tools at home.

Eh people keep cast iron skillets and pots and pans in the kitchen in my dorm (Donlon Hall)

Townhouses. Although it’s a pretty small kitchen.
