Thought I'd start one for CU 2013 Arch Admissions.
I believe we've all sent our home tests in by now.
We can share our projects + ask questions + congratulate one another here.
Everyone goodluck!

hello everyone! it seems as if we have a very crowded pool of applicants here.
in all seriousness I’m sure more people will pop up on here.

Wouldn’t it be class of 2018 since it’s architecture. Anyways, I’m also an applicant myself, and good luck to all of us on our decisions! I’m curious, though, how are you guys going to spend the rest of your March, waiting for April to come by? The anxiety is quite unsettling.

Yes you’re right. I guess I was thinking of 2017 Sep…
To be honest I’m not really that anxious…maybe it hasn’t hit me yet.

Anyways I have my hometest pictures in another comp. As soon as I get them I’ll post!!! Maybe this will help us pass the time…

Decisions come out during first week April??.. ><

Hi
Am I allow to say it here?
I was asking about the school of art in other place but just so you would be aware, all three schools need to be united if they are to keep free tuition policy.
Have you being following news, social media etc about huge deficit Cooper is suffering?
They might be not able to keep free tuition policy, starting incoming class this fall of 2013.
If Cooper is the top choice because of free money but your family is well off, (60K and up? 65? I do not know how they would come out) you might need to be aware.
If Cooper is the only option, please pay attention to current discussion (you can google Free, Tuition, Cooper Union, or any of such words combined).
I understand most of you are HS seniors but this is going to affect you.
There are things you can do to help if you so decide.
Thank you.

They won’t be charging tuition for the incoming class of fall 2013 because engineering ED was released last december, and they received a full scholarship (one kid posted his letter on tumblr)

soooo yeah. I’m also applying to the school of arch who wants to swap hometests?

I can swap hometests. message me and I’ll message you a link to mine?

“Confidence is the feeling you have before you fully understand the situation”
Despite the source from Tumblr, things may change with circumstances. Whatitsays, although class of 2013 may not be affected, in concern of the future class and the continuation of Cooper Union’s tradition, I would love to help. Is there, however, a way I can offer assistance without having to donate? I’m a student looking for free tuition, so donation isn’t in my option.

Hi
Thank you for the interest.
Deficit is said $15M /year, so it is not like your $ 50- 100 dollar could make much of difference, but the meetings minutes and the streaming of Trustee open forum just taken place on March 1st, Trustee kept saying how current students ‘donated’ pennies, and when asked if they would give back after graduation, said to be answered
“then, it would become student loan, not merit scholarship” i.e. kids have no intention to give back
Which could be true, for one or two students this trustee have spoken with, but I don’t believe it is of everyone’s sentiment.

Art faculty Mike Essel started the open link called “money on the table” where you can show intention to pledge with no money transaction at this point. You can sign up for that if you wish, because it is not going to be taken into action until tuition is going to be charged for real.
There is a facebook, Twitter, other groups that dedicated to save free tuition policy.
I do not know if it is OK to post links here, search around and you will find photograph of students from all three schools have packed the new building’s stairs to stage silent protest against secrecy of the trustee meeting which was to taking place yesterday, which door is closed to faculties and students council after turned down repeated requests.

This means all three schools. Engineering, Arch, and Art are now united, because if they are to eliminate the school of art, it is no longer the Union.
I appreciate kids from other two schools, whose status are basically OK (for now, but so far OK) especially kids who are to graduate this summer in few month.
Cynics would say there must be some concern for the quality of their degree if, Cooper education is going to be watered down, so is the value of their diploma., but all in all, they are fighting for you, kids who are coming in.

I could only ask, please be aware and get involved.
I don’t do social network well ( I am old in case you missed) but just amazed that how current technology could help such causes.
For example, you can read any related media reports, statements, finance papers, videos form meetings and protests are accessible with live stream. Do get informed.
If happens at Cooper, it could happen at any colleges.
Just as yourself have said, things can change in matter of few months.
All your hard work to get accepted then only to find out your intended major being slighted, faculties changed, grants discontinued.
I am sorry, this post must be mile long by now.
Thank you for reading.

Hi
This massage is for the student asked what s/he could do to help.
After an hour or so I posted above, facebook page have shown the massage from trustees saying it was decided not to charge tuition for UG incoming class 2013 fall.
BY the evening local media including NYT have reported. I think it is safe to say confirmed.
But problem is not yet solved, far from it.
Income from lands lease always mentioned is of Chrysler building, could not keep up with expenses and Cooper alumni do not give enough compare to other top schools.
When current students were asked to contribute, the story I wrote in the above post have had happened to be used by the chair of the trustee as an example for their reason to search other way: urgent need to start charging UG tuition, to fill the gap.
During few open meetings also mentioned was that wealthy outside donor would not give Cooper because Cooper is “letting the son of surgeon from Houston go for free”
No offense to people from TX for I do not know even there indeed sons and daughters of such parents who also refused to contribute.
The chair was just trying to address how hard it is to raise fund, because he also mentioned about the famous artist also is a current Cooper parent have refused to give when assigned trustee member have approached in person.
There was one famous alum artist commented publicly
“they’ll get it when I die”

I am trying to understand all this. I would like to do what I can and going to now on.
If any of current or past, future students and family reading this, please help the school.

Whatitsays, thank you for all the info, I will be looking into the movement more closely now on. By the way thinart, as far as I know, I think posting the home test anywhere without Cooper Union’s permission is not allowed.

Does anyone know when the results are sent out? First week of April?
Is it through email or mail?

First to second week of April. Last year rejections were sent out by email and acceptances by express-mail. Transfer applications generally come after freshman results. Good luck to all of you!

That makes sense. I quote the admissions page, “Most notification will be done via email.”

I DON’T WANT AN EMAIL

Did anyone who actually dropped off their hometests see how many there were? Is there a possibility that class of 2017/2018 will be the last to be free tuition?

(Also, willing to trade hometests)

so there’s no chance of knowing by late March?

I dropped off my test. I am not very good with estimating It was like a 3 class room space(the office) with tables all over. The packages were stacked to a little shorter than average human height…wow…that was a horrible description but eh that is how I remember it.

Did anyone hear anything yet?
I know the arch graduate school results were out like two days ago…
So nervoussssssssssssssss

@monkeys12 how many packages would you estimate?
