Cooper Union Architecture

Are SAT scores heavily emphasized for those who are interested in Cooper Union's architecture program? If not, what would be the most heavily emphasized factor for an applicant who is interested in architecture?

SAT scores are not heavily emphasized. It’s the portfolio / home test that is.

Ah, thank you. Wait- I thought only applicants interested in the arts program were required to submit a portfolio? (I knew hometest was for both art and architecture).

Although GPA, SAT/ACT is important everything is based on the portfolio and hometest. If you’re applying as a freshman, you don’t submit a portfolio and only the hometest is available to you, to show the committee what you’re really made of. I’m applying for the 2011 fall semester as well, and I’m so nervous to see what the prompts are! GOOD LUCK!

Thanks azinboi32. Good luck to you too and I hope we can see each other next fall!

Hi, I have a question regarding the home test.
How difficult is that?

I bet its really challenging…designed to see who’s fit for Cooper Union and to see who has the potential in their program. KimchiBoy, you must be Korean?

Yes, I am.
Do you know anyone who has taken the home test?

Hi kimchi boy!

I took the home test and got accepted for this coming Fall!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Hey, I was wondering if you can specify your stats during high school a little more. Like ACT/SAT, GPA, and such…
THANK YOU

Black:

I strongly recommend Cooper Union.

My brother went there, and is a multi-millionaire today.

Hi! I read your post on a thread about applying to Cooper Union and what you needed to do in order to qualify. I was wondering how the home test wen’t and if it’s something that I can study for? Could you also tell me what the general topics were you being tested on? Thank you so much!

Best wishes,
Fernando

Hi. I’m also planning on applying to cooper next year.
I was just wondering, if I’m applying for first year freshmen for architecture, do I need a portfolio? How about the home test? Which one comes first?

And also, is there a topic for the portfolio?
THANK YOU SO MUCH

portfolios are only for transfer arch applicants and art applicants.
Good luck!
I heard the home test is a huge brain teaser really conceptual…they want to assess you in terms of creativity. I was going to apply but I’m accepted to ED engineering now. hope to see you there thinart :D

Im also an applicant to Cooper Union for architecture, and I have been browsing through the internet to find some accepted cooper union hometests, but I only found 2. Does anybody know where I can see examples of this rigorous hometest?

I suggest poking around on deviantart.
I don’t think it would help that much though… the tests are different every year.

Thank you so much for you suggestion.
it seems that most of the cooper union hometest on deviantart is for art.
are there good references for architecture hometest?

I got the architecture home test for this years application last night, anyone else freaking out? There are just so many projects that all sound extremely difficult. I know we can’t discuss per say what we are doing for each, but we can at least discuss the hometest as a whole…

Still waiting for mine to come (they’re being snail-mailed, right? Ugh, why couldn’t they email it like the art one …). Deathly afraid, as I’m not as artistic as I’d like.

Judging from previous hometest prompts, I’d suggest just being creative. I think they like unexpected things!

My home test arrived today … less than four weeks to finish all that, great … but maybe I can pull it off.
