Hello,
I am a rising 11th grader and have a passion for Art. My Art teacher praises me a lot. Academically, I am good, too.
Please tell me what I need to concentrate on in order to get into the Cooper Union ? I know it's very competitive !
Will my portfolio and my artistic talent the only factors they are looking for?
How good should I be to get in?
Thank you for your kind advice.

Hello bewildered. I am actually an architecture student… and a cat, but I know a bit about the admissions process for art students. If you are doing well academically, that is a plus, although the school does not really assess your academic record as a major factor for your admission. You are going to be asked to submit a portfolio/sketchbooks to show your interest in art and how you generally make creative observations. But the most important factor to your admission is the home test. This is a series of visual questions that the school asks to all art applicants. They really want to see how well you respond to these questions in order to assess if you will succeed in the school. It is probably good to look at a few of the hometests by accepted students. Here are a few although they are scattered across the internet. Best of luck!
