Some people I know are doing "Wicked The Musical" and they are getting people to play in the orchestra. And they are advertising, but I am 99.9% sure they do not have the rights, as this is a group of stuck-up teenagers. So is this illegal, and if so, who do I report them too, so that they can be shut down or whatever.

Woah, do you just really not like these people or something?

theater BRAT . . u sure you'er not a part of them .. lol

jk

It all they do is advertsing it. It is LEGAL. As long asthey dont deface the work or claim it as their own. I think this is under the "fair use" clause.

I'm pretty sure you have to buy the rights. A group of my friends put on a play this summer, and they had to buy the rights.

You know how like on sports events they say "any rebroadcast of this game without written consent from the league and teams involved is strictly prohibited"... same deal.

They're making money using someone else's work, and that other person isn't getting a share.

Post this in the Music Theater section of this website and you will get a correct answer no problemo.

They do have to buy the rights, which can cost thousands of dollars. Reporting it to the actually owner of the rights would be the best route. Owner may not care though.

Are they charging?

This line is from the cover of a play: "Professionals and amateurs are hereby warned that performance of *** is subject to payment of royalty. It is fully protected under the copyright laws of the United States and all countries covered by international copyright."
