Core classes - advice on most popular classes, professors - and the ones to avoid!

I'm looking at the fall MAP offerings, and most of the offered courses look really intriguing. I've done some research on Albert at the Course Evaluation Guide, ranking professors - but figured those of you who have been there and done that would have the best advice.

Who are the most highly rated professors, and who are the ones that you wish you'd never had? Additionally, any advice about your experience with the core - classes that sounded great but ended up being awful, classes you wish you had taken after hearing good things from others, and just general advice about getting through the core - would be very much appreciated.

Here's a link to the core classes:

I would recommend hitting up ratemyprofessor for more info about specific professors. Different ones tend to teach each semester, so I can’t really give you advice about any one specific professor. I think the core classes are across the board pretty mediocre, but it definitely helps to go for a topic that you are genuinely interested in. Also try to look at syllabi ahead of time, so you have an idea of what kinds of assignments the class consists of. In these classes, TAs do virtually all the grading, so buddy up to your TA and figure out what they want to see. Some specific classes I know of: animal humans (for texts and ideas) is supposed to be really good. Conversely, the sounds class for the expressive cultures requirement is supposed to be horrifically difficult. I took Multinational Britain for my own cultures and contexts class, and while the class itself was pretty good, my TA was an incredibly hard grader and heavily favored students who were upperclass history majors

Cool @jazzcatastrophe - I was hoping you’d answer. That’s exactly the kind of information I was hoping you’d be able to share. Appreciate it!
