quick question which GPA matters more Core or Total for colleges and stuff. I am assuming its the Core GPA (Academic Classes) because most colleges sort of disregard grades in PE and Art and such.
It depends on the college. I believe some competitive colleges just take your class grades and use them to calculate their own version of GPA since there are so many different ways school districts calculate GPA. Otherwise, I think the main one they look at is unweighted, with all of the classes you’ve taken factored in at the same weight. They may or may not consider academic classes more highly, but if you got a C in an easy class like Intro PE, that would always be a little alarming to some colleges.
@dax123 so most colleges just look at the UW on your transcript and the weighted doesn’t matter as much?
Put it like this - if you have a 3.0UW and a 4.0W, it won’t look great to colleges, but if you have a 4.0UW and a 4.0W, it won’t look fantastic either. With either, you’ll probably get into a lot of the bigger state colleges, but it’ll be hard to get into very selective colleges (unless your school lacks weighted classes, who have is a different story).
The weighting does not matter at all. There is no common rubric in the US for weighting, so colleges will look at the UW and/or weight according to their standards.
@skieurope Thanks, I just dabbed like 10 times in arrow.
