Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship Class of 2020

@Senior2016M @TechITnow thanks for the help. I’ve emailed admissions to find out the problem.

Also, for those who have received the scholarship, does your portal change to show you’ve been accepted, or does it remain the same?

@southeastkid No change in portal. In past years, all were announced on same day other than Blair.

D got CV. Portal didn’t change. Email subject line said Congratulations. The email stated this is awarded to @ 1% of freshman applicants. With so many applicants in the high stats/great extra range, it is difficult to state what stood out from one applicant to the next and a mistake to assume it’s just about highest/most (fill in the blank). So many more deserving applicants than openings/scholarships.

hey y’all! Wondering who a CV Scholar is or looking to reach out to one to ask questions about the program? Feel free to message the new facebook page! We’d be so happy to answer any questions! https://www.facebook.com/CorneliusVanderbiltScholars/

The cornelius scholarship is not an automatic thing, and no applicant should rely on or expect it. It isn’t given for high stats, although the cornelius scholars often have them. In my experience, what sets them apart is a very individual, coherent sense of mission that comes across in their personal statement/recs/ec’s. For example, I personally know one high stats cornelius scholar who was all about academic medicine, and had years of bench research at an elite medical center under his belt already. I know another scholar who didn’t have the high stats, but they were all about getting better science education to underserved communities, and had clearly demonstrated that.

Does no one have any idea when Blair applicants will be notified about CV scholarship? Also does anyone know approx. how many Blair gets to allocate? I know it’s proportional to school size and Blair is the smallest so I’m thinking 10-15 but could be wrong.

Has anyone who received the scholarship gotten more info from Vandy? Is there a visit day for us?

I believe there are 210 Blair students, approximately 50 freshmen per year, translating to 5 CV awards per year for Blair. Just a rough calculation based on Vanderbilt’s freshmen data from last year and noting 1600 freshmen enrolled and about 160 CV…one in ten enrolled get the CV.

@TechITnow it’s not 160 enrolled, they give awards to people who don’t enroll and don’t “regift”

@collegebobollege yes indeed. I was trying to give a “ballpark” idea to @Senior2016M’s question about how many CV for Blair students. Whether it is 160 or 150 or 140 who actually end up accepting the CV, Blair’s portion does not change…Blair’s portion is about 5 CV per year awarded. How many of those 5 end up accepting is not possible to calculate from the data on Vandy;s freshmen profile sheet.

I’m pretty sure I got it due to my essays and REC. I got a 36 ACT, but a 2200 SAT (which I unfortunately sent too). No service, but lots of robotics (4th in the world) and YIG stuff. @stellabubba what is your son’s youtube channel?

Any link to the number of Blair students who are offered the CV award?

Just curious, does CV scholarship also cover the room and board or only for the tuition ?

^ No room and board. CV covers tuition for all four years and an additional $6,000 to be used for summer program, study aboard, etc…

I see. Thank you so much for the explanation

Do any of you know any Vanderbilt scholarship for Sophomore ? I heard Ingram is also available for Sophomore. I am just wondering how competitive it is to apply in the sophomore year. Any info on this will be appreciated. Thanks

Hey does anybody know when we hear back from the “additional scholarships” like Curb that uses the CV application?
