Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship Class of 2020

Last year they had a thread for the CV scholarship and I found it really helpful and interesting to read through, so I thought I would make one for this year!

I applied for the CV scholarship as well as the other two main merit ones. Good luck to all! Hopefully we hear back early in March.

Is there an interview associated with CV scholarship? If yes, then when do they notify for the interview?

@dudefromnowhere According to last year’s thread, there is no interview. Just an email and physical letter for offers, email for rejections.

I know the answer is probably no, but did anyone get more information about what they look at for the scholarship besides what’s mentioned in the scholarship description? I feel like I fit that description really well, but I’m sure many others do too so I’m curious what else is a factor besides the “academic achievement” and “leadership” they mention.

My son applied for this. Does anyone know whether the scholarship results are just released at the same time as admissions decisions?

@pdxcwa no, they are typically released in early march.

When are admissions released and when are CV scholarships released? I assume you meant the scholarships are released mid March.

@FutureMDParent Usually, CV scholarship notifications come in early March. Admissions decisions will be released on April 1 this year.

Did anyone here apply for the Chancellor’s as well?

do they automatically just give you the full tuition for the CV scholarship or do you have to attend some sort of admits weekend with an interview

If you get CV you get an email, there’s no interview process or anything like with Ingram

hey does anyone have an idea of when the scholarship is usually emailed out this year? I think last year it was like March 5-6

I’m a freshman at Vanderbilt who received the Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship last year in the School of Engineering. I got the notification on March 6th, and talking to the dean, they send out the notifications the first weekend in March (usually on a Friday). This year, we’re working on putting together a special program for potential CV scholars to come and get a unique tour experience of Vanderbilt (kind of like a Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholars weekend). Let me know if you have any more questions about the program or about the scholarship!

@indianboy2400 That sounds awesome! Thanks for filling us in

@indianboy2400 any idea if that weekend would be available to ED1 kids who got the scholarship? (Not that I will lol)

@indianboy2400 Thank you for the info!

Do you realize that kids are already making decisions now and that Vanderbilt is behind the curve on this especially if you are planning these scholarship weekends?

@collegebobollege To put it frankly, very few (if any) ED applicants get the scholarship. The main goal of the scholarship is to attract top tier students who would have otherwise gone elsewhere to come to Vanderbilt. If you applied ED, then they already know that you are committed to coming to Vanderbilt, so they have no incentive to give you the scholarship. This is just my opinion however, so don’t get your hopes down.

@FutureMDParent Most decisions for universities come out in mid-March and even April (Stanford), so I would say that Vanderbilt gives students plenty of time to make a decision. I presume that the scholarship weekend would happen sometime in April, just like most other schools admitted students weekends.

@indianboy2400 thanks! I am aware of that, though they told me my chances would be the same as if I applied RD.
